The server version is free and the install is automated. I too shied away from TV server when I started out , because it used to involve the separate set-up of the database software. As it stands now, you shouldn't really notice any difference - the one feature I remember losing was if you are timeshifting a program and press record half way through, TV server will only record from that point on whereas MyTV would use the timeshift buffer to record the entire show from the start. Other than that it is much imporved and as it runs as a service, recording can happen even if you don't have mediaportal itself running.

hmmm, I guess the main reason why I didnt install the server version was it was necessary to have a version of MySQL as well or something like that IIRC. When I searched for recommended versions of MYSQL, they all required $$ so I opted to stick with the simpler non-TV server version. I am probably wrong with many parts of this story, as I have not "attempted" to install the server version in close to a year. Is the server version worth the effort? Would I lose any features from the current version of MP that I have? If that could solve my EPG problem with little effort then I am all for it - and by little effort I mean I am willing to do what it takes to get the EPG working, I just want to do the simplest way!

I thought it was really easy to install and setup. I would give it a try. Perhaps make a backup before you try it out though.

Hey guys, I have been following Patricks and Moab's instructions on how to set this up and I'm just straight up lost.

I think something is buggy with it, because I follow the instructions step by step and it never loads the EPG! AAHHH!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached logs too. Thanks.

Did you get the trial to Schedules direct, then log into the site and add a "lineup" based on your zip code? And of course make sure your username/password is correct in the plugin. If you don't do those the plugin won't link up to the site.

The lineup is added, the user name and pw are correct. It's just not loading the schedule when i start.

So I am getting my Media Portal up and running now and I am stuck on trying to figure out how the heck to even sign up for the 7 day pass for Schedulers Direct. Is the registration not open or something? Sorry for suck a noob question, but I can not find anywhere that talks about how to register.

Once this is done, since I am using Media Portal v1.0.0.0 with the TV Server installed as well, I would use the 'SchedulesDirectPluginTVE3-v1.1a.zip' version, right? Thanks!

Hi, on the front page of Schedules Direct it says you just register on the site with a new account and you get 7 days free. Go ahead and give it a try. That version is correct, just make sure you install it into the tv server plugins folder, not the mp plugins folder, or you'll get an error. Then configure it in MP plugins area. Make sure you tell the plugin to grab an EPG on next TV service startup, then restart the tv service and let it sit for awhile. I waited about 10 minutes, then ran MP and the guide worked perfectly.

Ok, thanks for that! Turns out that since the TV is an older TV, and has a max resolution of 640x480, I was not seeing the entire frame. Dang old TV's!

Now I have gotten the plugin installed and running. Install was pretty straight forward. Once everything was done I restarted the TV service and then waited for some time. Now the issue is that some of the program guide is being inserted like it should. Most of the channels are not identified based on the TV logs as seen below:

So I am at a loss here. When looking at the lineup after logging into SD, everything is there and looks correct. Also, channel 41 is seen as Discovery when logged in to SD, but when looking at the EPG data, it is some Spanish channel. All the other EPG data seems to be correct. Any ideas? I have attached the Tv.log file for reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You really should get a new display... On another issue, I see you have the AVerMedia M780 PCIe TV-Tuner 1 under Vista... does it work? I thought I'd read where its ATSC tuner 2 won't work under Vista.

Well, I am only subscribed to standard cable (and not HD or digital) and do not plan on going to either of these for a long time. So to answer your question, I am not sure if the M780 works for QAM under Vista. I do know that standard cable works nicely under Vista MCE and Media Portal. Just with Media Portal I can't get the EPG to work, where Vista's MCE works just fine.
