agreed, apart from the initial configuration it would be nice if you could set the XML TV EPG 'harvesting' to be automatically done once a week or whenever.
ie: no manual deleting/renaming files, pressing F3 etc.
I use an alternative software called O2Grabber (search for it on google),.. it works very good but it supports only Sweden, Norway, Denmark and (the most of channels) in UK.
It downloads all icons and downloads the data quicker than when I used XMLTV.
OK, I have to use the AT Schedule (an batch file  ) in Windows instead of the built in .py support in MediaPortal but hey, I get an EPG with a lot of program info and all the icons.
This is how i use o2grabber:
Put the o2grabber.exe file in the xmltv directory.
After start the program. Chose configure, then chose your channels.
Set the output directory to "C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\xmltv" or where you have xmltv-folder.
The output filename should say: tvguide.xml.
Set channelnaming to what you want.
Check Make grabber invisible.
Check download icons.
Set time offset to 00.
Uncheck adjust for daylight savings.
Set country to sv.
Set days to grab to what you want. I use 2 because i turn of my computer during night.
Click ok and exit o2grabber.
Open Media Portal configuration. Go to Television|Program Guide.
Set xmltv-folder "C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\xmltv"
Check use timezone information from xmltv
Set compensate timezone to "1".
Set grabber to the swedish (i dont know if you have to do this )
Clock "ok" and close configuration.
I the same directory where you have o2grabber make a bat-file.
You can use notepad and rename the file from .txt to .bat
Type: o2grabber.exe -grab
i named my file to o2grabber.bat.
Right click the o2grabber.bat file and chose Send To|Desktop.
On our desktop rightclick the shortcut and set the run property to hidden. Grab the shortcut and put it in your startup-folder. Another option is to use Scheduled Tasks to make windows run the batfile every xx day.
Vola now xmltv updates everytime you startup your computer. Phu i hope it did help you. Feel free to pm me if you have any problems whith your o2grabber setup.
O2Grabber works fine for the listings except that I cannot get it to download the icons. It worked once about two months ago, but since then nothing ( Can anybody still get it to work with Norwegian channels?
Maybe it's just saving them in a strange place. Where is the default location?
