For example, consider the case where a person has access to multiple providers (not uncommon), and these providers have overlapping channel sets (again, not uncommon). In these cases, many people like to merge the channels. Which EPG source should be used though?
As long as you keep auto merging optional.
That worked out horribly last time, it merged different providers different versions of the channel if they had the same name. it wouldn't of been so bad but was made impossible to access the variations of the channel which actually carried different programs. It required entering TV server setup manually adding seperate versions and editing tuning details.
as for EPG source if it's the same version it's not really an issue. for example sky/freesat/freeview all update some channels for me. Usually it's not in issue unless CPU use updating the EPG is an issue.
