Re: VC-1 issues (VC1)

If you don't like SAF, you can figure it by yourself, it is a secret ;)

Wow that's really useful information in an open source community. Thanks.

I know you put SAF together, and thats great. Personally I don't like it. I know lots of people do.

I'll download the MPEG Splitter and have another look and see if it sorts the time stamp issue out but the only thing I could get smooth playback with it was ffdshow DXVA which won't decode interlaced so that's no help for all my interlaced MKV's.

i cant be more clear sry

vc-1i blu rays work for me now ..they are not jittery or half-frame rate anymore

the version you are after is any after 20110203

look here under the experimental builds in the 2011 directory

    hobring.esero.net - /saf/binary/experimental/

    Changelog says:
    SAF 5.00 SVN20110302:
    - ALL - MPC-HC filters/player updated to rev. 1.5.1.2910
    - ALL - FFDShow updated to rev.3751

specifically for blu rays using bd handler u need to register mpadecfilter.ax and mpegsplitter.ax which already exist in the MP directory

my codec selections are in my sig

the VC-1 settings needs to be "unchecked" for DxVA as that doesnt work yet

Thanks but I'm not using SAF. Its just an installer for a bunch of other decoders and demuxers. I need to know whats changed within SAF that now decodes VC1 blu-rays using Gabests MPEG Source Splitter without jumpy frames...

I use the latest MPC-HC splitters and still get jumpy play back on VC1 blu-rays unless I use ffdshow DXVA... which is no good for VC-1i

The guy doing VC-1i in the ffmpeg SOC never finished it... so it's not ffdshow decoding VC-1i.

I'll triple check my MPC-HC filter versions and report back.

I'd like to write up a proper guide on how to get VC-1(p and i) decoding working correctly in MediaPortal with MKV, .m2ts and stright Blu-ray playback using the Blu-ray handler. Not just 'install SAF'.

    @domb:
    What CPU do you have?

    Q6600 Quad Core @ 3ghz
    4GB ram @ DDR1000 (DDR1066 RAM)
ATI HD4850 - OC'ed as well but can't remember how much

I must be using a an old MPEG Source filter that has trouble with time stamps. I still haven't gotten around to checking and testing it.

    Re: VC-1 issues (VC1)

    Still doesn't work for me.

    Setup as follows:

    Windows 7 x64 SP1
    MediaPortal 1.2 alpha
Latest Blu-ray handler for MPC SVN
Latest Gabest MPEG Source filter (v1.5.1.2920)
    Arcsoft Decoder (v2.28.444.129)

Arcsoft Decoder for MKV - smooth playback for VC-1i/p
Arcsoft Decoder for Blu-ray handler - green screen/can't decode VC-1i/p
Microsoft DMO for MKV - smooth playback mostly for VC-1i/p (not as smooth as Arcsoft)
Microsoft DMO for Blu-ray handler - jumpy/half frame rate VC-1i/p

I'm at a loss. I can't understand how anybody else can have smooth blu-ray playback USING BLU-RAY HANDLER with the same setup, unless hoborg's going to share his 'secret' for SAF. Maybe i'll just install that but I don't want to.

    Re: VC-1 issues (VC1)

I like to have control of my codecs. I don't like to use codec packs that try and set things up for me.

Are you saying that Gabests MPEG Spliiter now works with Microsoft DMO and you don't get jumpy video? I'm sure I'm using the latest version and still get jumpy video from Blu-ray using the Blu-ray handler which uses Gabests MPEG Splitter.
I have two VC-1i *.m2ts samples, both didn't work correctly before, now they play with correct timestamps on my PC (Win7X64 + ATI 5770) and HTPC (WinXP + ATI 5450).
    What does SAF do differently?
If you don't like SAF, you can figure it by yourself, it is a secret ;)

my opinion is actually there isn't any splitter that can connect to any codec that can decode vc-1i via dxva......

i found a old workaround to use a tweaked pdvd filter to connect the splitter to the pdvd codec...but that workaround is really awful.......

to me DMO decoder is like a pain in the a**e, no support for dxva on vc1i

a final word on the saf pack.............. i hate codecs pack, but saf is different ..... it is really clean , fully costumizable after installa and it doesn't bomb your system......

    byeeeeeeeee

if someone can find a way to play in MP vc1i by DXVA, he is very welcome :) thank you

    Re: VC-1 issues (VC1)

I have VC1i playing well using the MPC splitter and the Cyberlink decoder in full bitstream DXVA mode. There is occasional judder but I guess that's because MPC doesn't output perfect timestamps.

The problem is the graph will not build automatically so I had to write a messy routine in MP to build it manually for VC1i. I might possibly try and tidy this up so it could be added to 1.3.0 as an 'unsupported' feature. I can't promise anything though and there's likely to be many setups where it won't work.
