I would like to see those rendering stats but we need graphedit for this I take it ?

Or do we have any other means of displaying those in mP ?

    Inside MP.

Seems like if I watch some complete 23.976/24 fps movie and then returns to 50 fps TV, then hell is loose.
If I do some testing by starting 23.976/24 fps movie and instantly stopping it and then changing to TV, then it never or seldom happens.
It seems it always happens when I am watching a complete movie.

I would assume that the deinterlace get's broken when we are changing the refresh rate on the fly. To get good results here's what we should do:

    1) write a plugin for MP that allows switching between 24 and 50 refresh rates
    2) change the resfresh rate before starting the video playback

That way we can see if the codec / drivers are to blame.

OK, so I have logged the problem as it appears to me. This is what I did:

    1. Started MP
    2. Played a video file (24fps) - Refresh rate changes to 24Hz
    3. Stopped playback . Refresh rate changes back to 50Hz
    4. Played another video file (24fps) - Heavy stuttering

I did notice that the refresh rate change itself (the blinking of the screen and whatnot) looked different when starting the second video.

Can anyone see anything unusual in the logs? BTW, if I follow the actions above it seems I can reproduce this problem every time.

Funny thing is ... I only have that stuttering problem on liveTV or rec TV. TS files, 25 fps stuff.
Never seen it on 24hz material.

The major difference is the need for deinterlacing on those pal TS streams.

Has anybody taken a look at my log yet?

Anyway, I have noticed another thing too. There was someone in this thread who said that the problem went away if you for example went to the desktop and back to MP again. I have another problem where the GUI gets super laggy after playing a couple of videos. Even though I run a 50Hz refresh rate it looks like the same as when I am at 24Hz. The GUI goes back to normal when I do the same thing - bring MP out of focus by doing something on the desktop, and then go back again.

    I can confirm this....

Ok, can now confirm that the stutter I see in 50hz (25 fps material) also happens with AVI/mkv's at 25 fps.

    I seldomly watch 25 fps avi-mkv material - but yesterday I did :)

    I now see stuttering when:

    * Watching PAL TV (25 fps interlaced) @ 50hz
    * Watching avi/mkv (25 fps) @ 50hz

So it doesnt look like its a hardware deinterlacing driver problem.

Ofcourse for the stuttering to even occur I have to first start some 24/23.976 clip which changes the RR to 24hz and back again to 50hz when starting TV etc.

Had yet another issue where I was able to use the keyb. combination "shift-1" which shows the EVR rendering stats on screen.

    They were:

    EVR: 32 fps avg-
    dropped frames counter: steadily increased

on normal working TV (pal DVB 50hz)
    EVR: 50 fps avg-
    no frames dropped.

    go figure :)

Still can't reproduce on demand guys. :(

Happens maybe once every 30 hours of watching on my machine and refocussing the window helps like reported.

When I see this issue, it's like the file is running at exactly 50% of the actual fps and every second frame get's shown on my machine. Hmmm, every 2nd frame. My guts tell's me there are some de-interlacing attempts when there should be any.

For others it might be a driver problem as 23.976 is really implemented bad on ATI and NVidia in general as no driver version is capable of delivering 23.976 constant (e.g.Nvidia does 23.971-23.974).
