    Hi Frank,

could you try the latest svn. I made some changes a couple of days ago that might affect your problems

    I just tried diehard2's linked hotfix (VM9/Interlaced).
    Very interesting, it's essetially a newer (may2006) quartz.dll
I've had stuttering for a while - very minor but worse on channels with occasional biterrors (due to slight signal noise issues on weaker multiplex).
I think this newer quartz.dll has much better timing implementation.
Now my stuttering is all but elimintated, recovery on the errored channels is much better.
Now when I enable use exclusive DX9 I see an improvement whereas it didn't really do much for me before.
Using the '!' I see that framerate is more stable.
Also, I was using girder to overlay the volume bar, and this was working but now is struggling - I guessing due to changed timing behaviour - what's interesting is that in the past I was never able to use this and I also used to have perfect stutter free tv. I'm happy to lose it again! and use the MP volume bar instead.

But my point with all this is that it does indeed seem very easy to install something that messes with your setup - and very likely different hotfixes applied in different orders might give different results.

I for one will be trying to keep this version of quartz.dll installed.....

    Hi

I'm very sorry that you conclude that this is a DVB related issue, as this thread originates from the https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=11510.
Where people with mixed setups sees these problems/log-entries, both DVB and analog, myself included (I have a single 150mce card) and I experience exactly the same issues as the posters in that thread. And I get exactly the same log entries. I have now tried every possible tips/trick/fix/hack/driver I could imagine, even bought a completely new setup, but without any improvement.

    Kind regards
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I don't think that anyone has concluded that this is only a DVB issue, but I do think that some of the users with DVB cards are getting stutters because of marginal signal level.

There could be several different reasons why users get stuttering video .... :(

Have you installed the "quartz.dll" Microsoft hotfix mentioned above?

Could you post your system configuration and the section of your MediaPortal.log file that shows what is happening at the time you get these "stutters"?

    Hi Taipan

I have exactly the same symptons as broadscott and many others describe in the original "TV Stutters after 1 hour" thread. The tv can stutter a bit in the beginning, but after an hour or two the frequency and amount of stutter makes it quite unusable as entertainment :).
I have at this point tried every conceivable suggestion posted on these forums, but with no luck so far. Among a lot of things: Updated the quartz.dll, "set default direct audio renderer", disabled C&Q, disabled Indexing service........
Getting a bit desperate here. I even wanted to downgrade MP today to a version prior to 0.2.1.0 as one poster meant that his/her stutter began with this version, but I couldn't find a download other than 0.2.2.0.

    Kind regards
    Martin

Heres a section of the log where the stutter is worst during a movie last night, the stutter lasted about 20 seconds before it returned to 'normal': (as you can see it contains alot of the infamous playing->repaint messages) has anybody actually got an idea/description of what this error means?

    Hi mba,

That message just means the VMR9 is struggling to keep up on your system, it doesn't tell us why. Could you do the following test?

    start mp in windowed mode
    walk away for an hour
come back and look for stutter
    alt-ctrl-delete
see what is running on you machine

Try disabling all plugins and see if this helps. Most likely your cpu is at 100% and the MP can't decode the frames fast enough for you to watch them. We just have to figure out why your cpu is so high

Problems with tv stutter here as well. Came with a SVN about aeek ago. Periodic, like 10-15 secods fine, then stuttering. Almost an audio/video re-sync problem?

    DvB-T here, terratec T2 usb.

    edit:
Tested with SVN from 07.01.07 now - no problems.

I also have had these stuttering problems and I can't wait to test the 0.2.2.0 version plus latest SVN to see if it´s fixed for me.

With all respect and admiration for all people involved in MP, I think it's sometimes very hard to get through "first line of defense" when a bug is detected. This bug has been pointed out by many users the couple of months in various threads. A BIG BIG thanks to iamfrank for beeing persistent, clear and to the point. Great job!!!

Taipan, can I make a suggestion? I do understand that you don't want to find bugs in "your" software, but as a tester, thats exactly what you should do. In fact, you should be payed by the amount of erros you can identify (if you where paid at all that is). It's a bit strange, if you ask me, that you try to find the solution outside MP, as you then risk to NOT find a bug.

Again, I don't seek to blame anyone or pointing fingers here. I see this as a recuring problem with the support in these forums. Often users are asked to post a proper support message from the template, but when they do, nothing more happens.

And maybe it is as good as it can get with a open source project based on a non-profit foundation...

Anyway, thanks all for your efforts!

PS Sorry if this is OT. DS

Lately I've been suffering the same problem that is being described here, but only on the PVR-350: If I enabled time-shift, after a little while image and sound start to stutter until they almost stop playing. At those times I dont get CPU spikes, much the opposite, CPU use goes down by 3 to 5% approximately; I don't know if I'm getting the log entries listed here (Repaint), I will have to test further and see.

I've been doing tests to trace the source of the problem, most of them trying video codecs other than MPV. But all of them suffered from the same problem. Surprisingly when I changed my Audio codec from "MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Audio" to MPA, the problem went away almost completely; now sometimes I only get a small freeze of less than a second, but after that it keeps going. Unfortunately the MPA audio cocec is unable to decode audio for one channel and sometimes it won't work also for some TV shows, so I can't have it permanently :( .

Maybe this is not the same problem that some of you have, until I can get some logs it's difficult to say. But maybe it's something worth to look at. This has been said several times: first try with MPA & MPV, when something isn't working well.
