    Hi mrman,

the problem here is that (usually) stuttering is not MPs fault. In other words, on the vast majority of systems we can't do anything about it. It happens at a level far lower than we are dealing with. Stuttering is caused by several things. Among them

    1. CPU hungry process such as automatic update (shown as svchost), antivirus, etc,
    2. Bad TV card drivers
    3. Bad Video card drivers - for instance, I can't use the latest nvidia version without stuttering, and there is nothing I can do about it
    3. Not updating quartz.dll to the version I've posted above
    4. Using decoders that are not very good (DScaler, MPV, Intervideo) instead of NVIDIA or WinDVD

We know about the problem, its just not within our capability to fix it. Some systems just have problems based on hardware/configuration. We can only make suggestions about how to fix your system.

    Thanks diehard.

Maybe I don't see the whole picture, if so, I stand corrected. To me the issue is that the problems/bugs that actually are caused by MP sometimes don't surfaces because of the effort someone has to put in before a bug is reported, in this case by iamfrank. I have had the exact same symptoms but not the time to test, report and debate it.

I do see your (the developers) side of this too. I'm not saying anyone is to blame, I just want to point out the problem, so MP can be even better, stronger and more beautiful.

I have now installed the 0.2.2.0 + latest SVN and my stuttering is now down to a minimum. I have som stuttering, but it doesn't get stuck in a stuttering mode anymore. It stutters for a fraction of a second, and then it's back to normal. No "reversing" in the timeshift buffer is needed. I've tested for about an hour now, and it's still OK. Great stuff!

mrman, did you install the hotpatch? That has made the largest difference in stuttering on my system

I actually notice the stuttering this evening, but only on certain channels. I think this is because the reception on those channels can sometimes be dodgy. I used to run DigiTV which is the native software that came with the tv card (Nebula DigiTV) and that wouldn't stutter but every now and again would show a little interference. It was actually much more watchable, I found the stuttering unwatchable.

It mainly happens when a bus or motorbike goes past my window, god knows why but maybe its because the signal is coming in from that direction and its being blocked ever so slightly.

It does go away and come back, my specs are as follows:

    Nebula DigiTV
    Nforce2 Chipset
    Nvidia Graphics 5200fx
    AMD Athlon XP 2000+
    512MB ram
    2 x Hard Drives (160gb each)
    1 x External Drive (400 gb)

The timeshifting is recording to the internal drive, but was switched off. I tried several different codecs but found the default one to be the best, (30% cpu usage on BOB deinterlace)

I think that MP software is great, and is what meedio always tried to be. This is just a little annoying but Im sure someone can fix it... It sounds like all it needs is a better way of handling discrepencies in the signal, or maybe some sort of post processor to ignore the spikes in the signal?

Im running the latest version of MP, which was installed on 28th Jan

    Hi

    diehard2:
I have tried running in MP windowed a couple of times for a couple of hours with all irrelevant plugins disabled, having processexplorer running beside it. But I haven't seen other processes using resources beyond 5% where MP is using between 20%-60%.

I thought I had tried everything on my new system, but your comment about new nvidia drivers, made me uninstall my 93.71 and install the 84.21 nforce drivers. Haven't tested it yet, but will get back when I have tried it for a couple of days.

    Which
    regards
    Martin

    Hi,

Did anyone could update the quartz.dll using a Non-English windows version ?

I have windows XP pro EN on my notebook and could install / extract the files but just copying the quartz.dll over the older one on my Windows XP Pro FR on my HTPC didn't do the trick. (errors when trying to add the VMR9 renderer in the graph in MediaPortal)

Try using a different mpeg2 decoder, some decoder are dropping frames when they receive corrupted stream and some are showing corrupted frames. This is nothing that can be fixed inside MediaPortal.

Most likely those car engines are creating some sort of interference with the tv signal and thats corruption the DVB stream.

I have the same problem, the hotfix of quartz.dll has only been release for English-US :( . Other languages are not supported so we have no fix :( .

Sorry about that guys, if you need it I suggest you drop microsoft an email and ask for it. They probably just have it lying around somewhere. I know that's not ideal, and is probably a dead end, but its all we've got right now. As a (non-ideal) workaround, if you disable dxva in the nvidia decoder, it should behave better, but use more cpu and not look as nice.

some people reported their problems went away reverting to an older quartz.dll version (DirectX 9.0b)

alternately, you can extract the quartz.dll file from the windowsxp-kb919071-x86-enu.exe archive, reboot in safe mode and replace every occurrence of the original dll by this one. VMR9 Renderer works fine here.

Edit: if you're not able to extract the patched library from the executable here is the latest quartz.dll file alone (6.5.2600.2905)
