Hi,
The architecture of DirectShow is designed with multithreading in mind so assuming the used filters in a specific directshow graph use multiple threads to devide the workload: yes, MP will benefit from multiple cores.
For example: viewing DVB-S TV with an SS2 and MPA/MPV as codec distributes the load evenly across the 2 CPU's in my old dual PIII 1GHz rig.
