Hey, since this program is open source, can I put it on a Linux OS?

No problem.
If you will give it a try.
But it won't work out of the box.
MP relies heavily on DirectX 9.
There are already some threads about porting MP to linux.
Just do a search.

MP1 MP2 CEC Remote Plugin stops working after MP 1.35 upgrade DE
