Making the text configurable will probably cause more problems than its worth imo

Reading a 7" screen from 5 Meters will require very large text,

do we want to reduce information and functionality for the ability to read from that far?

its very hard to develop an app for such small screens and have everything readable from long distances

Hi,

first of all: Really great work! Seems like a lot of work to create such a plugin from the scratch :D

I have tested it as far as it's finished and I'm impressed.

Same thoughts on my side about the amount of information that the screen should provide. I think there are two usages for the second screen:

1. lot of infomation, read from a short distance and use touch buttons

2. very limited information, read from long distances

I need to queue to the second group. :) I want to read from a long distance (about 3-4 meters) and control Mediaportal, browse through music folders etc. That's based on the wish to not start the big 42" screen when hearing music etc. So the original plugin (with the known issues) is really nice for me, because it shows the current selection (means where the active line in menu, music selection etc. is located). It is possible to browse through mediaportal menu and music albums etc. So starting the big screen is not needed for music. But these are only my thoughts about the plugin :D I don't want to prosume that's the best function for the plugin...

The key questions for me are

- less information shown big or a lot of information quite small?
- should the plugin only be used to show information or to control Mediaportal in a limited matter as the original one (e.g. browse music)?

I think that's up to you :D

Cheers,
Neelex

Hi sa_ddam213,

very nice screen, the beta work for me but the screen is too big for me, I use a 1024x768 screen.
I can click on to buttons, screens work as describe. Good start ;-)

On screen I would see a special current playing : Film title / TV and current time inside the show (and next show, current time, you have a mail !) Like current playing but not only for music and something that can be read from my seat ! Not to many light, a very simple that not illuminate the room in the night. I'm not clear, I know :)

I also tested you latest version on a 7" LCD touchscreen (Zalman 160XT plus). However the plugin does not fit the screen, and looks just the same as technicks. Even when I set resolution to 1024x768, it does not fit. There should be imho an option to scale the screen so it can fit any touchscreen. I also miss the clone mode, which I really like. Keep up the great work, I love to see my touchscreen working without the need of the TV switched on!

sa_ddam213, Just tried the updated version with possibility to change font size. I believe that size +4 is the "right" size. However that is just my two cents. Unfortunately the updated version becomes too long for the screen, and some of the text breaks line. And most important the update has broken the touch screen navigation buttons.

AW: Touchscreen LCD display Plugin

Hi again
now I get a crazy error:
During config: Failed to locate assembly "Bass.net, Version=2.4.4.3, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=xxxxx"
Running MP: it simply crashes and wants to report to MS
According to some posts MP is unable to load the dll

The error is not reproachable, touch screen was working but on the wrong display. So I did reconfigure primary / secondary display and got this fail. Now it’s stable fail. Changing the display config to first working one did not help

btw: same error when I use the old touchscreen dll (rename from xx.bak and name the new to yy.bak)

Ideas?
thx
Peter

gustavson, i've got a similar error. i wanted to test the new plugin, as it seems promising. However, when i want to approach the plugin in the configuration tab, it craches and gives me a windows error, and wants to report to ms. The same error is given when i startup mediaportal. it also gives a windows error, however its remains open (mediaportal that is).

i have a 8 inch touchscreen (http://www.monitorking.nl/products/8-Inch-LCD-Touch-Screen-Monitor-(Widescreen-16:9).html#), running on windows 7 64bit on an msi P7NGM-Digital motherboard.

I am desperate to search for a new touchscreen, as the 7 touchscreen pluging 23-03-2008 is given me also a lot of troubles. I can't use this properly because the media buttons are overlapping my nagivation buttons, and i have no idea how to change this. I have tried several resolutions, however it keeps overlapping. If anyone has an answer for this i will be happy untill the new and (fairly large) improved touchscreen is developed. But still looking very promising. keep up the good work.

My suggestion is to show large but limited info as default, and then switch to more info with smaller fonts+buttons when the user touches the screen. Then it could return to large info after a number of seconds, like 10-30.

I want to add that I'm using a remote control and therefore I need the 7" display to show selection etc., not or only very limited to control MP actively.... In general it should be possible to start MP in main menu with the small display only and be able to go to "my music" for example, there to a folder or album and start the music. So it should be (partly) possible to see where you are in Mediaportal structure on the small display, too. If using the small display to show current track and some other play information only the plugin looses some of the good functions the original plugin had. ;)
