When i have work on the branch about detection of tvservice, i have see something strange about taking ipv6 and not ipv4 adress and then it failed somehow but i have do the test on the branch where i have start to implement the new code.

It seems nobody try the supplied bin :) (just to know if it's the same) or maybe i didn't see answer about it :)
Can't use binaries without Custom Data Grabber support. Obviously I could install it then revert back afterwards but, honestly, I can't be bothered with that.

I could start a dozen threads describing different issues I have with MediaPortal but I simply don't have time to troubleshoot all of them right now.

Are you able to confirm the same behaviour as Subigo - if you change the streaming server IP address, does it start to work?

mm
Nope. I tried all three available IP addresses in the drop-down list but none of them made "Test Connection" successful.

Obviously you restarted the TV service after changing, right?

    @michael_t
I'm running single-seat with static IP address (192.168.2.17). The "hostname" field in MP configuration says 192.168.2.17.

Yes, manually. If TV Server Config ever asks me to restart immediately, it always disables the TV Service and never re-enables it, so I always do it manually.

    Wow, that is bizarre.
Tell me about it. MediaPortal is just buggy in my experience. Even the clean install when I moved the TV Server (and tuner card) from my HTPC to my server didn't help much.

I plan to do a from-scratch install at some point (with no imported channels, schedules or databases), maybe with 1.4.0 if Custom Data Grabber gets updated, in the hope of eliminating some of these weird issues. The biggest three right now are:
    • Encrypted recordings sometimes only work for a second or so before failing to decrypt for the rest of the recording (probably not an MP problem but only started happening recently, and recent versions of OSCam simply don't work on my server so I don't know where to start with troubleshooting this)
    • The HTPC takes bloody ages to start a TV channel or view the EPG after waking, sometimes crashing MediaPortal in the process and requiring a reboot. Considering the HTPC is only a client, and it's connected via gigabit ethernet to a TV Server that's using an always-on SSD for timeshifting, I have no idea what could cause such a thing.
    • Channel changing on my HTPC client is ridiculously slow, around 5 seconds once "warmed up".
I might try a TBS tuner card at some point because the BlackGold ones have such poor drivers and terrible customer service - it's now nearly a year since I was promised a new driver to fix a BSOD issue "soon". :(

I have try to connect to my TVServer from work (with vpn connection).
Doing Test connection from MP config -> give good result (connection successfull)

In my routeur, i have enable NETBIOS and Multicast over VPN (I mean i have set it to Accept).

After that i have try to start MP, it retrieve connection string for sure but like on my TVServer i have set the 'Hostname' and not the IP, on my client (from work) the hostname of my server was not reachable.

That lead to the point, i need to add in my host files : 192.168.0.1 TVSERVER.

But after that i get timeout (30 seconds), i'm on ADSL and bandwitch is surely not enough.

    So to summarize :
    • I can have 'connection success' from MP Config
    • I need to associate hostname vs IP on my client PC
    • Have a better VPN connection lol.
    • I can't reproduce the connection failed on MP Config
    Seb.

Not sure to follow you, but my english is not really good.

You mean you can't take the time to test right ? if yes why i can take the time to help you :)
But like i said i'm not really sure to understand you lol

I don't have the time nor the inclination to try different versions of MediaPortal right now - making sure I have backups of everything and making sure everything is restored afterwards is hassle, and then depending on the result I may have to do it all again with another build. I am fine with upgrading to new versions since that is usually quick and easy and doesn't require downgrading, but I can't upgrade to 1.4.0 until a Custom Data Grabber build is made, which may be never (and I'm having no luck building MediaPortal myself).

I have co-operated with every other troubleshooting step in this thread and we got somewhere - I at least can view the MediaPortal EPG after typing the hostname manually in the MediaPortal.xml file, which lets me record channels so I can watch them in MPC-HC. MediaPortal's TSReader obviously doesn't play nice with VPNs - even with 15-20 Mbps of bandwidth, a 3-4 Mbps SD channel doesn't play without skips and errors in MediaPortal, but it works fine when the TS file is played directly using MPC-HC. Using MediaPortal over a VPN must be massively low on the priority list though so I don't expect this to change any time soon.

    Ok :)

You are on 1.3.0 :) so i understand now why you can't test but you see i have try :)

I should read first first again but i was thinking data grabber was based on 1.4.0 too now.
