Yep I understand mm I activated it when I researching the wiki, as this produced a more Tivo like experience to improve the WAF.

Stuttery as in the picture seems frozen and only slightly advances and or rewinds every one or two seconds, stopping and subsequently clearing the buffer brings back almost fluid motion (a little jerky) and then smooth motion, sometimes I get some improved jerkyness again after two or three minutes then smooth picture.

How would you like me to collect them, straight after the problem occurs?

Use the Watchdog in the normal way.
    1. Use Watchdog option 1 or 2 - "report a bug..." - to start MP.
    2. Do whatever you have to do - including standby/hibernate + resume - to reproduce the problem.
    3. Close MP. This will trigger the Watchdog to collect the log files for you.
This is the standard method for collecting log files:
Post Log Files - MediaPortal 1 - MediaPortal Wiki

Were you not aware of this?

Sorry, those log files are no good to me without at least telling me when - date and time - the problem previously occurred.

Sorry should have looked at the date, I think they were before I sorted out the display problem. I'll grab some logs tonight.

Ok guys finally got some logs and the symptoms were really bad before collecting them which was around 10:45pm adelaide time, even had a blank screen and before that freezing and stuttering. thanx for being patient, these were coillected at debug. just also wondering if i can change the location that watchdog saves the logs to somethin more network friendly.

Well, at 10:45pm it looks like your display/TV reconnected or changed in some way.
    The log shows:
    [2017-08-06 22:45:30,058] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DISPLAYCHANGE
    [2017-08-06 22:45:30,577] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DEVICECHANGE (Event: DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE)
[2017-08-06 22:45:30,614] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: Device type is DBT_DEVTYP_DEVICEINTERFACE - Name: Generic PnP Monitor
[2017-08-06 22:45:30,630] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: Video Device or Screen Generic PnP Monitor removed
    [2017-08-06 22:45:30,638] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - GraphicContext: device video removed - Count 2

    ...followed by...:
    [2017-08-06 22:45:31,123] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DEVICECHANGE (Event: DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL)
[2017-08-06 22:45:31,135] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: Device type is DBT_DEVTYP_DEVICEINTERFACE - Name: Generic PnP Monitor
    [2017-08-06 22:45:31,178] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DEVICECHANGE (Event: DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED)
    [2017-08-06 22:45:31,217] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DEVICECHANGE (Event: DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL)
[2017-08-06 22:45:31,230] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: Device type is DBT_DEVTYP_DEVICEINTERFACE - Name: Generic PnP Monitor
[2017-08-06 22:45:31,253] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: Video Device or Screen Generic PnP Monitor connected
    [2017-08-06 22:45:31,278] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - GraphicContext: device video connected - Count 3
    [2017-08-06 22:45:31,307] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_DISPLAYCHANGE

The previous log entries are at 22:30.
So, the question is: did the problem start before 10:45?
If yes, the above log entries are presumably part of your log collection process, and should be ignored.
If no, I guess you need to look into what happened at that time. Whatever it is appears to be external to MediaPortal; MP just receives a notification that something has happened.

The Watchdog allows you to choose where the log files are saved. Is that not sufficient?

By the way, I assume these entries in the Windows system event log are from you inserting a USB flash drive as part of the log collection process:

Ok, so good that it's not mepo, how i use the system is at the end of the night switch off the tv, then later when I switch it back on I get the issue. How would I go about diagnosing this? Could it be graphic card related I have recently replaced the gpu as the old one had fan issues new one is a gt710 fanless card, I checked temps when I installed it and they seemed fine, I think the old drivers for the old card pick up my tv and not had a pnp monitor listed.

Yes I inserted a portable hard drive (verbatim brand) as I had to do some file copies not part of the log collection process and killed two birds with one stone so to speak.
