As far as the stuttery/frozen-TV-after-on-off goes: I've said I think that's not unexpected behaviour. You're welcome to start a new thread if you want; I'll have nothing to add/contribute if you do.

As far as the crash goes: you're welcome to start a new thread, but in my opinion it's fairly pointless unless/until more info can be provided.

I think we have done all we can then, and I'll try and appease the wife somehow. Maybe turn off screensaver or make it go to the home menu, hopefully that will stop the tv from freezing up.

I think I found the reason for the server loss, and maybe the crash.

My damn router reverted to a stupid configuration where it assigned the htpc IP address to my other desktop and allocated a dynamic ip to the htpc, even though the proper address was a reserved address assigned to it dynamicly. I have since made it fixed static.
