tv picture (1 Viewer)

    my tuner scan came up with over 200 channels but problem is Im only able to tune a small handful of those channels, on the rest I get either a frozen picture, or a black screen, how to fix this?

    As much as I'd like to help, I'd need way more information from you.
    • whether you're using MP1 or MP2
    • what tuner(s) you're using
    • which codecs you're using
    • etc. etc. etc.
    Please follow our support process: fill in the system specifications in your forum profile, and post log files showing the problem.

    ok, I thought I had filled in my system specs but here is what I got, Hp Envy 700-210, ceton infinity 4 tuner card with time warner cable card and sisco sta 1520 tuner adapter, Nvidia Geforce gt 610 using hdmi output . Im running Mp 1, Im not sure what codecs Im using and don't know how to check that but in tv settings I I . can see MPEG-2 Video codec and H.264 Video codec. I have 2 log files, one _19 is an error I get when computer wakes from sleep and I try to watch tv, something about no free card, the other is watch dog started mp1, I tuned a channel I have good video and sound and then one with black screen and no sound
    _42, .... I just tried to upload and not sure if I did that right

    I think your black-screen-no-sound problems in the _42 log files are partially related to this, so this is something you need to sort out.
    The codec settings can be found in MediaPortal Configuration in the "codecs and renderer" section.
    Go to the "TV Codecs" tab within that section. It should look like this:

    My advice is to select the "LAV..." option for all, except for the "audio renderer" setting. For "audio render", select "default DirectSound device".


    The other part of this problem is [I think] related to Windows Defender (or other security software you may have installed). Windows Defender appears to be stressing your hard drive by attempting to scan MediaPortal's timeshifting files. To resolve this, you need to configure Windows Defender (and any other security software you have) to trust MediaPortal (MediaPortal.exe) and MediaPortal's TV Server (TVService.exe). That may involve excluding the MediaPortal install directory, MediaPortal TV Server install directory, timeshifting directory/directories and recording directory/directories from scans.

    For this problem, please:
    1. Untick the 2 "enabled" tickboxes in TV Server Configuration in the "DVB EPG" section.

    3. Check the Ceton Diagnostics utility. There should be a "Windows away mode” option which you may need to tick.

    thank you I will try all this as soon as I get a chance, very nice looking piece of software, I hope I can get it to work as good as it looks, I now feel like I got ripped off by Microsoft by paying 100 dollars twice for two different desktops running win 8.1 for media center.

    ok, in the "TV Codecs" settings tab the settings where already set as you recommended, set my security software as you suggested, unticked the two enabled tickboxes in "DVB EPG" section, they where" enable crc check" and" epg grabbing while idle", ticking the windows away box causes the computer to not sleep which I am not looking to do, so I went back and unticked. I have downloaded the patch but have not installed it yet, I am really not having any problem with mp1 finding all 4 tuners or scanning channels so I am not sure that would help but I will try to install it and see. So... so far problem remains. I have talked to time Warner cable card services and their tech said that one of the singles found in centon dia was not right, the FDC is reading -15 dBmV on one of my computers and -13 dBmV on the other , witch I am still using media center on, I was told it should be between 7 and -7 so their sending a tech to the house in a couple of days to try and fix that, any other suggestions ?

    Please trust me. The reason you're seeing the "no free cards" message is because MediaPortal's TV Server has lost contact with all 4 tuners. This is a very good reason to apply the patch.

    So... so far problem remains.

    I'm not going to assume that the problem is the same just because the symptoms are the same.
    Please post fresh log files if you want further suggestions.

    Ok, installed patch have two more log files, same procedure as last time, this time it took me 2 tries to produce the black screen log file because the first time I tried , I tried to tune one channel with good reception and then two more in a row with black screen, when I tuned the second black screen channel Mp locked up and I had to restart computer, no log file was produced.

    You asked for an additional reply in another thread, but I've really got nothing to add.

    To summarise, the stream TV Server is receiving from your tuner is full of corruption. That's almost always because:
    1. Your HDD is stressed.
    2. Your signal strength/quality is inadequate.
    On the first point, I already instructed you:

    Did you do this?

    On the second point, you said that TW were sending a tech out to check your signal levels. If there's a problem on that front, the tech should be able to sort it out.

    Did the tech come?

    On the security, yes I did, in fact on these last two log files I uploaded, security software was turned off, and I have changed the settings so that when it is turned on it does not mess with MP. The cable guy did show up but was unable to fix the problem, big surprise , he muttered something about sending someone out to look at the lines outside and out too the pole just before he left, he did say there was something not right about the single, but I don't their going to any more about it unless I really keep on them about it, any way thanks for your help and I keep messin with it to see what I can do

    Well, the log doesn't show any problems. I can see correctly tuned channels in the log. It seems to me that the tuner works fine. Can you copy the created ts file(located in your timeshift folder) somewhere else while in channel preview and try to play it in VLC or MPC-HC? PS: You can also try to make short record
