You can use Windows task manager performance monitor to check that HDD is not heavily loaded when attempting to timeshift (and if it is, which software is causing the problem).
You can use the tuner's web page to monitor the signal strength and quality.
Note: it may be helpful/necessary to be aware that you can switch MediaPortal to "windowed mode" to make it behave like a regular application (so you can see other windows, the desktop etc.). You toggle in and out of windowed mode by pressing alt + enter/return.
