TV Server and Window 2008 Win2k8 Server (1 Viewer)

my advise.. if your not that familiar with Windows internally.. leave it alone..its a big hassle..

sry...but it doesn't seem that you're very familiar with w2k8.
just tested tv server under w2k8, everything works perfect and the installation was not really hard:
1. check which network is activated for your network-card (private or public)
2. switch out the firewall that matches your network configuration (private or public)
3. install tv-card drivers
4. install "bda for server 2008" (can be found in the internet)
5. install feature "desktop...." (don't know if it's really necessary)
6. install tv server with everything necessary
7. change the service to run under admin account
8. restart service
9. be happy with a good running tv server under w2k8

This worked great for me, once I figured out that the bdaforserver was a self extracting zip file. I had to tweak the .bat files a bit but now TVServer sees both of tuners on my Hauppauge Dual Freeview card. It's also scanned and found all the channels successfully, I've just got to do a recording test now. If that goes well then I'll be upgrading my server to 2008 and also to MP1.1 RC1.

Err, I wasn't flaming you. I was genuinely thanking you for a simple list of instruction which got MediaPortal, more specifically BDA working in Windows 2008 Server.

yay, i proved win2k8 works with my tv tuner

Unfortunately a raw win7 client install (no SAF installed yet) wouldn't actually view the live TV, so I had to start a manual timeshift in the tv server config app and check it out with VLC. But, it works, so that's something. Next on the list of things to do is to get SAF installed on the client and get that all working.

Too much other stuff to do though, so it might take me a couple of weeks to get that done

Still, it's one step closer to having a 2008 server with a massive (for me) RAID5 for all my media. I need win2008 server to support > 2TB partition *and* on-line capacity expansion on my RocketRAID card. (Highpoint have told me that OCE with 4K sector size isn't supported )

I just wanted to share this with you
a small how to use windows 2008 with aero enabled to use mediaportal client on 2008.
this way mediaportal is stutter free and it looks nice aswell (like windows 7).

Here is how you do it

the thing you need is a graphics driver for you card that is compatible with 2008 (vista or win7 driver is usually good, i use win7 x64 driver nvidia)

Ok select features:
.net framework
Desktop Experience

go to the services.msc panel set the services to automatic and start the following services:
Themes
Windows audio services
(some machines require a reboot after this change)

now go into your display settings (right mouse etc)..
the Windows7 aero theme should be selectable..

you did it .. you got a windows 7 view..

Now install the mediaportal client.. (advanced install to add the client only if you have tvserver already on it)

voila... youre done.. workstation server all in one

What´s up with Rc4!? Does any body test it on a Server 2008R2 Server? I have partially freezer..:-/
I think i must change the TV-Server from Server2008R2 to Win7, because this Win Version official supports from MediaPortal.

? I don´t want a Hint for Installation. That´s not the Problem. The Problem is , i have Freezer on the Client(Win7). Is the TVCard pluged into the Client, it works perfekt. Is the TV Card pluged into the Server i have Freezer, sometimes after some minutes, or immediately. Lan is an 1GB LAN,Server has 10% CPU Load. Question -> The GrapicCard ist not important to looking Streams in SD,HD for the Tv-server ?
What kind of error could it be?
