So when I select My TV here are the options I see
TV Guide
Recorded TV
Record Now
Channel
TV On
TV-Streams
Scheduled
Search

Then I see a channel number in the picture window but no picture.

Is the TV on supposed to have a dot next to it? I keep trying to select it but nothing happens.

Here seems to be my problem.

From error log:

6/28/2007 7:40:53 PM 5 RemoteControl: Error getting server Instance - Requested Service not found

I can tell you the server is running, SQL is running, I can preview channels. I can manually stream a channel.

This is still with MP locally.

I tried MP over the network and get "unable to connect to database" error.

Use the SQL management configuration utility and start the SQL Browser. Its not started by default - set it to automatic as well. They really should include that in the documentation. That gave me the same error accessing TV Server from a networked client.

As for locally, check to make sure - you have the Client Plugin installed.

Also check that you've removed any TV cards from the MP Setup utility that may have been used with the included tv portion. Although, I haven't done this step myself so I can switch back and forth between .2 and .3 by uninstalling the client plugin, and I have no trouble in either.

That was it. I am able to connect now remotely.
I also have to enable TCP sql option.

Still no picture on either client and I can't change channels. Am I supposed to be able to? Also is the TV on supposed to be highlighted?

No matter what I try I can't seem to change the channel either with local MP or networked MP.

Yes I do have the TV3 client installed in both cases.

Yes the TV-on should be highlighted in order to see a picture. You can enable this by default in options. Otherwise click it, and it should light up.

If TV Service is running, then I'd check your tv card setup and channels. Other than that I can't be too sure where to look next,

    Good luck.

Nope. Can't get it to light up. I tried turning on the setting by default in MP but it didn't help. I can connect to the EPG and Channel list but no picture.

I've tried this on both MP local and MP over network.

    Any ideas?

Well getting the epg list means the database is running - maybe tvserver isn't? As soon as you start the tvserver setup it starts it for you though so that might not be it. The only thing I can think of is the tv card setup, is it an internal card and did you scan channels. If its an external stb, you need to map channel to the appropriate input, eg shvs#1.

TV server is on. I scanned channels and can preview them. I can manually stream them.

Can you explain more about the channel mapping? I only have 1 tuner card.

its likely you do not have to bothering the mapping - i know I did because I have an external box coming into the s-video. but you can find all these setting in tvserver config. post some more logs from tvserver someone may be of more help.

Finally figured out what was wrong.
    I kept getting these errors:

    2007-07-02 20:25:16.218750 [ERROR][MPMain]: OnMessage exception:confused:ystem.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'Void MediaPortal.Player.g_Player.StopAndKeepTimeShifting()'.
    at TvPlugin.TVHome.ViewChannelAndCheck(Channel channel)
at TvPlugin.TVHome.OnClicked(Int32 controlId, GUIControl control, ActionType actionType)
    at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.GUIWindow.OnMessage(GUIMessage message)

I was using SVN from 6/26 so I tried the latest SVN 7/2 with the same issues. I randomly selected one from 6/12 and errors went away. TV turns on automatically when I launch MP now and I can select channels and change channels using the guide.
