Hi,

No luck with this tvserver.exe.

Here are the log-files...

There seems to be problem uploading the tv.bak file:
It has info like this:

5.9.2007 17:11:34 1 Controller: using MySQL database connection: Server=snes;Database=TvLibrary;User ID=root;Password
5.9.2007 17:11:37 5 TV service starting
5.9.2007 17:11:37 6 TV service PowerEventThread message loop is running
5.9.2007 17:11:37 5 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MediaPortal TV Server\gentle.config
5.9.2007 17:11:37 5 Controller: using MySQL database connection: Server=snes;Database=TvLibrary;User ID=root;Password
5.9.2007 17:11:37 5 ----------------------------

Anyways, there seems to be some bug in the mediaportal itself. When the option wait for tv-server to start (single seat installation), it never waits for this to happen.

In the mediaportal.log file there is exception:
Exception :confused:ystem.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Requested Service not found

--------------------

If I start manually the tvengine first and then mediaportal.
The EPG is there, but when I try to turn on the tv, I get error
"unable to start timeshifting, unknown error occured"

In the mediaportal log-file there are a lot of lines like these:
2007-09-05 17:22:39.171875 [Info.][13]: window:MediaPortal.Dialogs.GUIDialogOK init

Thanx for our patience :)

Looking at the logs I'm not sure if JargenJ and SciDoctor are facing the same problem.

SciDoctor

Can you also check with the TVServer.exe I hve uploaded.

timshifting problems

OK, now the tv engine seems to start better.

I am now manually running the media-portal after the pc has started up (and loaded mysql and tv-engine).

Now I get EPG in the mytv, when program or channel is selected, I get error message:
"unable to start timeshifting, unknown error". Is this something to do with new tvengine ???

------

When mediaportal (link) is copied into startup-folder, it will show this select tv-server
screen in the mytv. If it now closed and re-started after about 10 seconds, it will find
the tv-server. So I guess the tv-server takes 10-20s to start. The option to wait
tvserver start-up in mediaportal (singleseat) does not seem to work.
Still these unable to start timeshifting errors.

-----

When I use the tv-engine-svn based tvengine.exe and wait this 20 seconds before
running the mediaportal, I get EPG and few seconds of TV program. It sort of stuffers
and then MP fails.

Used the newer tvserver.exe and this made no difference to the failure at boot

The Tvservice still times out at 30seconds.

Starting the service manualy after the failure and there are no problems.

No logs produced (unless there is a new log file for this somewhere)

Needless to say that I hoped to see something different.
So if you are not tiered to try some things you can apply the newly attached TVServer.exe and post
the tv.log file. This build will not resolve any issues but it has some additional loggings which may give a clue where to look for the problem.

First reboot after the new tvserver.exe added (used mptesttool to clear logs beforehand) and success as the tvservice started for the first time in weeks (the extra debug code seems to have helped!!!)

Did another restart and the usual fail at 30secs.

    First log is the success

    Second log is the fail

Also timeshifting is broken in the new exe (not a real concern atm as we are testing startup of service at boot)

OK. this acknowledges what I already assumed. We have a timeout when trying to connect to the db for reading the process priority. Now is the question how to solve the problem as the db access there is not done directly but is encapsulated in the TvBusinessLayer. The problem is not that the connection attempt to the db times out but that the starting service did not respond for 30 seconds to the SCM and so the SMC thinks the service died. Only way to solve this so far seems to check for the db in a separate loop before using the TvBusinessLayer. Within this loop you then must regularily answer to the SMC so that it sees the service did not die.

    Let me think about it.

This is not a love song.

The good news is that M$ has implemented the RequestAdditionalTime method into the ServiceBase class in .Net2, to give operations within Start, Stop, Pause, Continue which take longer than 30 seconds enough time to finish successfully.
The bad news is that the first access to the database is done in the constructor and not in the OnStart eventhandler where calling this method is invalid and throws an excpetion (I still really love to code the Win32 API with C++ .:p ).

As solution I would suggest to move the first dbaccess into the OnStart eventhandler and ensure with a flag that it is only called the first time the service is started, and then use RequestAdditionalTime to give the operation more time to finish. Hopefully then we will not see additional timeouts by the db componenet which are now covered.

I'm not a MP dev so I don't know if the devs would incorporate such change I would make into the official release.

    Any comments?

    grubi.

I'm using the latest MySQL 5 and I have this problem as well. Seems like it's not waiting on dependencies or never recognizes that they are finished. I get no message in event log until I manually start the TVService.
