    Hi again

Regarding the codecs, the conclusion is that when you install a MP client on a clean Win7 installation, the defaults for the codecs aren't the right ones.

No, I don't think that is accurate. A user may or may not have a given codec on their computer, and that codec may or may not be compatible with the streams you want to view. As I understand it, MediaPortal installs the MPC MPEG 2 Video, MPC MPA Audio, and Monogram HE-AAC codecs and sets these as the defaults for new installs. There is no default h.264 video codec or DD+ codec. It is expected that users would use their own codecs and only keep the default settings if they don't have any codecs, or their codecs don't work. You have to remember that XP doesn't have the Microsoft codecs installed, and the Microsoft codecs don't always work.

    Right.
But my reasoning was that you advised to use the MS codecs if no other codecs are installed, and in a clean Win7 environment, this is the case, thus : MS codecs = default....
Anyway...as long as we have guardian angels on this forum to help us out when we vent our frustrations... :)

Meanwhile, everything seems to be working fine.
I have been experimenting with the iPimp plugin to control this whole thing via my iPod touch, and I must say that is a beautiful piece of tool. Came home yesterday, started up (resume from standby) the TV server, took my iPod at the kitchen table, started streaming BBC HD just like that, no problem. Amazing.

My dream of having just one device in the living room to watch TV, movies, listen to music, etc, is becoming very realistic now.
I am very grateful for all the effort that has been put in this package, not only in development but also in support on this forum, in spite of my "whining" all the time.
I can now start preparing our ski holiday (we leave next weekend) instead of spending my evenings staring at computer screens... :)

:D again everyone, and especially mm for getting me through this struggle with technology
    Snow, here I come !
