TV Server problms with DVB-T USB Dongle (2 Viewers)

Right then ,

I've rebooted and here's what happened -

When MediaPortal was loading , it sat with the message "Waiting for TV Servise to start" for about 45 seconds . My network connection was not working , and sat there with the Windows "waiting" icon , just like my first post .

When MediaPortal had finished loading , I got a message "Connection to TV Service Lost " and I had no channels listed in my EPG .

After another minute or so , my network had connected .

Logs are included from both MediaPortal and TV Server (Log.zip and MPlog.zip)

I then logged off instead of rebooting , and logged back on . All my channels were listed in my EPG so I tuned to a channel from my DVB-S card (BBC HD) and then tried a channel from my dongle (RTE News) . Both worked perfectly !!!
Logs from this are included - "log off log.zip"

Very strange , If I boot from completely powered off , wait a few minutes for everything to settle down , then log off and then log on , everything works .

Yeah, I'm not sure that you even need to log off and log back in. The issue is that it just takes some time to figure out how to build the connections to the USB tuner correctly. The tuner is somewhat unusual in that it doesn't have a capture filter. That probably makes no sense to you. Let's just say that in the process of figuring that out, MediaPortal tries to connect a part of the satellite tuner with a part of the USB tuner. That will never work of course. It eventually fails, but it takes a couple of minutes to give up. While that is happening the TV Service won't respond... which is why the network connection locks up, MediaPortal client can't connect to the TV Server, and the guide doesn't update. If you wait it out then the problem will resolve itself and you shouldn't experience any further issues...

There is already a hard-coded list of tuners that don't have capture filters (like yours) in the TV Server code. Your tuner is not included yet. Perhaps we can add it or find a better solution. I'll speak to the rest of the team and get back to you...

If I just let my system sit and wait for my network connection to sort itself out , My Imon manager (lcd display and remote ) crashes , I assume this is because it uses a network connection as well .

Logging off and then back on fixes this . (edit - Logging off and then back on (when my network connection has sorted itself out) fixes this )
I have some more logs for you , give me a minute or two ,

Now that I have logged off and on again , I can exit MediaPortal , and restart it with no problem .

If I select a channel from my dongle , it works , including teletext .

The logs for MediaPortal however , include an error log file , but I got no error message on screen .

Logs are attached .


When you say you can add my tuner to the list , what would that do ?

I've talked to the team really quickly and we've agreed on what to do. I hope to fix this problem nicely for 1.2.0, but in the meantime you'd be stuck with this annoying issue until 1.2.0 is released sometime next year. I don't want to do that to you so I've attached a "quick and dirty" patch for 1.1.2. Instructions for use are the same as for installing the debug DLL that I gave you earlier...

No such thing as a stupid question
It would make TV Server use your tuner properly, which would fix all the associated problems (networking hang, Imon and remote crash, EPG issues...).

Absolutely - very unfriendly! Yes adding the tuner to the list would mean MP knows how to use the tuner properly as described above.

@Hamco: I'm presuming that you're affected by the same problem. If you're not using MP 1.1.2 then please let me know which version you're using and I'll provide a patch for you too

I've replaced the .dll as before and rebooted .

I waited with baited breath , and when MediaPortal had loaded I tried a channel fron my DVB-T dongle .
It worked first time

I don't have to log off and on again either !!!

The other two are from when I deleted all logs and rebooted . then tried tv from my dongle .

I still have the tv cards set to preload , should I untick this option or leave it as it is ? ( especially as it is working properly )

Did you clear that log when you cleared the other logs? The errors themselves are really outside my area of expertise (I'm really a TV Server/hardware specialist), but from what I do know about TsReader they seem *very* strange.

Me again ,

It still works but I thought I'd do a little experiment .

I started Windows 7 Media Centre and tuned to a tv channel from my dongle . It worked , so I exited Media Centre and started MediaPortal .
I then tried to tune to a channel from my dongle and got a, "unknown error" message on screen .

I have included logs for this .

A reboot sorted this and all is working perfectly with MediaPortal again .
I assume Windows Media Centre didn't let go of the usb DVB-T dongle properly and MediaPortal couldn't access it .

It's not an issue for me as I don't use Media Centre , but the logs might come in useful for yourself or other developers .
