TV Server problms with DVB-T USB Dongle (1 Viewer)

I started Windows 7 Media Centre and tuned to a tv channel from my dongle . It worked , so I exited Media Centre and started MediaPortal .
I then tried to tune to a channel from my dongle and got a, "unknown error" message on screen .

A reboot sorted this and all is working perfectly with MediaPortal again .
I assume Windows Media Centre didn't let go of the usb DVB-T dongle properly and MediaPortal couldn't access it .

Yup, you are basically correct. WMC stole the tuner and possibly locked it. Even if it wasn't locked, the fact that it was used by another application is enough to disturb TV Server (TV Server can't know that the tuner was used in another application unless it does things that aren't really feasible and that would make channel changing take twice as long - 5-10 seconds). Nothing we can realistically do about this I'm afraid...

I've got a nicer fix for you to test when you have some time. There are two files in the patch this time. Do the same thing as before with the TVLibrary.dll file and put the xml file in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server...

Hi again ,

I've tested the new files , and all seems to be working well so far .

I've a few logs for you to check .


"restart TV Server log.zip" - I deleted all log files , applied the new files and restarted TV Server . These are the new logs that were created .

"TV Server log.zip" - after restarting TV Server , I zipped the logs , then deleted all log files . I then rebooted my media pc and collected all the new log files .These are the new log files generated when my pc had rebooted .

"Restart TV Server - not preloaded cards log.zip" - I deleted all logs , and unticked the option to preload the tv cards . These are the log files generated .

"TV Server log not preloaded.zip" - After unticking the preload tv cards option ang grabbing the log files , I deleted all log files and rebooted my media pc . These are the new log files generated when my pc had rebooted .


I checked my MediaPortal / logs folder and there were no error logs .

I've tested the new files , and all seems to be working well so far .

I've a few logs for you to check .

Everything in the logs looks good to me. Just so you're aware of what I've done:
- The first patch I gave you fixed the issue by adding your tuner to a list that was locked into the code. It worked, but the list of tuners couldn't be changed without making a change to the code and then compiling a patch. Not the easiest for many users...
- The second patch moves the list out of the code and into the XML file. That change makes it much easier for anyone to add their tuner to the list if necessary. The list in the file is re-read each time a tuner is used for the first time.

Hopefully the second version of the patch will be accepted into 1.2.0.

Just thought I should quickly let you know that I have presented the patch to the team for testing and comments. Only a couple of people have tested it so far, but neither of them have had any problems. Comments have been good. Hopefully it will make it into 1.2.0b. All being well, no further testing will be required... But I don't want to speak too soon. Murphy's law and all that

One of the other team members has proposed a *really* smart idea which might allow us to do away with "the list" altogether. Unfortunately none of us on the team have a tuner that needs to be on the list like your USB tuner, which makes it difficult to test if the idea would work. Could I possibly get you to try something for me? Your logs would give us the information we need to decide if it is feasible to try and implement the new idea.

Instructions for if you decide to help:

1. Stop TV Server.
2. Download and extract the TVLibrary.dll attached to this post into your TV Server install folder.
3. Clear your TV Server logs.
4. Start TV Server.
5. Tune to any channel on the DVB-T tuner.
6. Tune to any channel on the DVB-S tuner.
7. Post your TV Server logs here.
