Hi,

is it possible and/or supported to install the TV Server stripped-down on a Win 2003 Server? I just need the TV streaming and recording capabilities, the media portal itself resides on clients.

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! :)

I already read that win 2003 is not officially supported by MP, but i don't need a fancy full-blown MP on that machine, just the tv server. My question is therefore if i can just install part of MP (the TV server) or if i can install the complete MP, ignore the warnings and use just the tv server without any problems.
A third option would be to run a VM with XP on the server, it has more than enough ressources for that - but did anyone try this yet? I fear that i might run in alot other problems using a tv server from within a VM ...

I know that i could just go ahead and try it out, but i don't want to do that much trial&error with the server, as it originally offers other services which are still used.

I dont know about strippingdown MediaPortal, however TVServer runs beautifully on 2003 for me, so stable I only reboot when I need into the case to clean it or upgrade it. I'd be interested to know how you get on with this, can I ask what you're plan is?

That's good news! I will install a DVB-S card and give it a shoot! :)
My plan is to use the server as central tv server for our home. It has plenty of ressources (Quad Xeon with alot ram and hd), and since we just moved in our new house everything is prepared: 4 cables are waiting to get plugged in at the server rack :)

Thanks for the info, i hope verything works out smoothly :p

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC. TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
