TV Server won't stop recording! (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the reply.

I have one PC which runs both TVserver (server) and Mediaportal (client). I use TVserver powerscheduler to put my PC into standby and wake-up for various events.

The reason I think that powerscheduler is involved here is because the tv.log posted below states, at 10.05.04 (when I switched my monitor on and started fiddling around) that:

"15/10/2007 10:05:04 6 PowerScheduler: System has resumed from standby"

Tvserver was active and had been recording since 07.54 (and should have stopped at 08.55) and yet apparently, the system was in standby.. how could TVserver record while my PC was in standby mode? I see it like a record that needs to be jogged. Tvserver starts recording with no problem but won't stop until I jog the computer. It's like my PC isn't waking up properly.

That's why I suspect it's a powerscheduler issue.. maybe I can try ticking some TV3 powerscheduler boxes such as "re-initialiser tvserver on wake-up".

Any thoughts or can I supply any more information?

Could u plz try and de-activate the "forced shutdown" checkbox.
This one has previosly caused a lot of grief.

    And then try again,

That option was already deactivated; I've now activated the "enable extensive logging" and "reinitialise service" boxes - I will run a test later on using these options.

There seems to be different levels of standby, at one level; tversever can record but nothing else is active (e.g. my wireless internet connection). Tvserver isn't fully awake at this level perhaps and thus fails to stop recording.

For the record, I also made sure that "TVservice" was on the list of processes that would prevent a shutdown, although I doubt that was a problem.

    Thanks again.

Have you got anything USB based connected to your pc, these are renowned for not initializing correctly after standby and causing problems, hibernate is the better option with usb based hardware.

I've got quite allot of USB based items so it might be worth me trying to use hibernate not suspend in future.

However.. so far so good, a scheduled recording just started from suspend AND STOPPED on its own(!).. I'll carry our more tests with longer programmes and let you know the outcome.

    Cheers.

I would think that "reinitialise service" would do the trick for u.

    Try this with standby.

For the record, since the last fix, I no longer have had any problems with scheduled recordings failing to end. The difference seems to be that I also leave my TV server running 24/7 - no powerscheduler or hibernate of any kind in use.

This is still happening to me unfortunately. See attached TV.log, Simpsons starts and stops recording ok from 19.00 to 19.30 but the next recording (scheduled for 1 hour) which starts at 20.00 doesn't stop until I manually resume at 21.27.

Lots of strange power scheduler lines in the log.

I will keep trying different variables (e.g. using hibernate not suspend) and re-test.

This happened again this morning. Tvserver did a 6 hour recording. Tv.log attached.

I set Tvserver powerscheduler to go to hibernate mode this time and I ticked the "extensive logging" and the "reinitialise service" options.

The recording was scheduled from 01.45 to 04.00. My pc wakes up correctly from hibernate and starts recording at 01.44 but doesn't stop until 07.44 when tvserver suddenly realises it was supposed to do another recording from 07.30 to 08.30. tvserver does correctly stop recording this time after 08.30.

The general rule seems to be that 1hr + recordings will start but not stop when tvserver powerscheduler has woken up from standby/hibernate.

After 01.45, I get lots of "PowerScheduler.DisAllowShutdown: handler ControllerActiveHandler wants to prevent standby" lines... these stop completely after 02.42 (approx 1 hr later), does that explain what went wrong? Does powerscheduler give up the fight and allow the pc to go into semi-sleep?

I don't think earlier TVserver SVNs had this problem. Is there anything else I can try, maybe using mpeg recordings instead of ts?
