i solved the problem by granting write access for all registered users to the "%programdata%\team mediaportal" folder. after that (somewhat harsh) step the setup routine ran w/o any further problems. tkx for the suggestions.

database password

My problem's different. After a screwy update (long story: let's just say NOTHING worked as advertised), finally got to the "Setup databse connection" dialog box, entered my password, clicked on "Test" and got an OK, then... the "Save" button "works" in that it lets me press it but... NOTHING else happens, and if I exit, the info is NOT saved, and I can go no further configuring the TVServer, Nada, zip, zilch, a big zero with the rim kicked off. From a working MediaPortal 1.0.0 to a completely unusable install in one nightmare "update". What's screwed up and how can I fix it?

Win7 beta, (setup--when finally the "update" had SNAFUed beyond all imagining--run in Vista compatibility mode, as required for the MP 1.0.0.0 setup), Hauppaugge WinTV1800, etc., all working just hunky dory before the "update" now toast. :(

Update: Well, after an hour and 45 minutes of fiddling around, finally, by running EVERYTHING--TVServer Config, MP Config and even MP itself--as administrator (something not required previously),AND further editing Windows Firewall (something MP setup SAID it had already done) most things work again. Not seeing any improvement over previous install as of yet, but maybe that's because my viewing is colored by the nightmare "update".

Still, beats the socks off Windows Media Center.

But this was definitely an update that was not ready for prime time, IMO.

Same Issue on Vista

I'm facing the same issue on Vista...

-> Solved

* complete reinstall
* changing access rights on /mediaportal directory
* Manual start of 'tvserver' service
* TVServer setup finally works :)

Win7 beta

But this was definitely an update that was not ready for prime time, IMO.

The update-process is not ready or optimized for running on a beta Win7 and we never stated it was. Dont [sic] blame the team for getting into update-problems on a not yet supported OS please.

Lame response. 1.0.0.0 was working just fine (as you could have seen had you read the rest of my post) on the Win7 beta, which is really little more than a Vista service pack/update. And I followed the instructions... which did not match what was presented by the update (there was no "update" offered initially).

BTW, there were FAQ/forum instructions offered for making an MP 1.0.0.0 install proceed properly in Win7, which worked fine for the original install. If this were a "ready for prime time" update, it would at least be forward-looking enough to be as easily installed as the app it updates. What, pray tell, is the team going to do when Win7 ships in Q3 or Q4 of this year? Say it's just not supported? That's just silly.

Try a more complete quotation of my post before making disingenuous arguments. Oh, but that might have undercut your "unsupported" remark.

Unimpressive. Very.

    I'm facing the same issue on Vista...

    Also facing the same issue on Vista-32 SP1. I tried "remove 1.0", leave SQL Server, fresh install 1.0.1

    Tvserver setup tests ok, but the save button does nothing as reported above.

    I then tried remove 1.0.1, also remove SQL Server, re-install 1.0.1. Still fail, save does nothing.

    About to try again.

    For me, this was solved pretty quickly once I remembered that previous to this upgrade, the TV Server Config utility always required admin privileges in Vista to run. The problem seems to be that this time the TV Server Config utility just opens as a normal program by default. You can right-click on the program entry and choose "Run as Administrator" or you can change the properties of the program so that it always runs as administrator. Once that is done, you should then be able to save the DB password without any problems.

    Thanks, that solved that issue. On with the install.
