It is probably a really silly idea. Just wondering if anybody knows of a decent way to run videos over a wireless network. I can't seem to stream them fast enough.

I doubt it but never tried, not hd for sure.

I upgraded to all gigabyte switches and can play any file I have

What types of files do you play???

Yeah - HD or even SD broadcasts don't stream really well. I use 802.11g at home and using VLC to play a recorded .ts file from one of the commercial free-to-air channels suffered from lots of lag. Wasn't too far from watchable on SD, but HD was a no go.

Playing compressed videos, though, such as divx etc. works a treat. Perhaps you might consider setting up some sort of automated compression process on your recordings to allow streaming over wifi, but live broadcasts won't work unless you have better networking than what you can get with 802.11g.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

I should have been clearer. Was actually referring to divx movies. They come across very jumpy if i try to play them straight over the network without transferring them first. You guys do this no worries?

It depends on the bitrate, of course, but yeah, no problem for standard files (eg. movies at about 800MB, or TV eps at 170MB for a 1/2 hour). This is just using standard network shares and VLC on a Mac Powerbook connecting to my Windows HTPC.

I'd check out your network setup if you're having problems at that bitrate - signal strength, etc. etc. Heaps of stuff via Google should give you enough info to go on.

a g wireless network should be fast enough. What are you viewing them with? VLC? Try setting up a buffer, then part of the file will load before playing. But yeah - it should work fine.

Hmm, not sure, although I have seen posts related to problems with network shares come through the various forums, so my first step would be to search for that term in the various relevant threads. I can't personally give you much more advise since I only have one PC, and if I'm accessing stuff via a network share it's on a mac with VLC.

    Good luck!

    Rob.

4.5 is really old. I'm not sure 4.5.5 even is a version that actually existed. You should be able to install .NET Framework 4.8.0 on Windows 7 SP1

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...

Preferable with as much disabled as possible also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything) maybe other programs competing for resouces?
