This plugin is awesome; I can't believe I've only just got around to installing it. Thanks to the author.

If I could request one improvement, it would be to do what my old Loewe CRT TV did when activating a similar process. That is, when switching to a different aspect ratio/resolution, to smoothly zoom the picture, rather than just jumping to the new setting. Would this be feasible, or does it require changes to the core MediaPortal engine. It would look really cool, though.

I installed this plugin in ver 1.01 and it does not work as it should. I have been using viewmodeswitching for more than one year and it is fantastic, it should be included by default. The problem in version 1.01 is the new streched modes (I guess) since the list of allowed modes have changed and the "normal" has disapeared from the list in the plugin configuration form. The problem I have is that it changes to a strange mode while it should change to "normal". My guess is that the introduction of new zoom modes in MP has changed the behavior of viewmodeswitching. Please, post a fix or a workaround if possible (may be the problem is only mine?).

Thank you for this pluging, is the only plugin I always install. Keep on doing good things as this one!!

Settings for Australia on 4:3 Crt

Does anyone have working settings for Australian DVB-T broadcast. It appears all SD & HD transmissions are done in 16:9. Programs that were filmed in 4:3 appear to be broadcast in a 16:9 container with letterbox bands either side.

On my 4:3 Display I can correct this by selecting the ZOOM view, but try as I may I cannot get the ViewMode Switcher to detect these letterboxed transmissions and switch to the ZOOM view.

    Any help would be appreciated:D

Excuse me for this post without help but I guess this is not possible (at least with this version of ViewModeSwitcher).

Theoretically, for optimal result on a 16:9 TV you need black bar detection on the left and right side, crop this and apply non-linear strech. On a 4:3 screen you would need only a switch to "zoom". But this plugin does not have black bar detection on the sides, only on the top and buttom.

Maybe the developer can implement this in the next version!

Hi kszabo, thanks for your quick response. I thought this might be the case. As you say, hopefully the deveolper might look into this in the future.

I have to understand correctly. You have a 4:3 display? When you watch 16:9 SD content, you have black bars on the top/bottom.
When yuo Watch 4:3 SD content you have Black Bars on the Top/bottom and on the sides?
    THis sounds very strange.

HD is a different story. HD is always 16:9 - this is part of the HD standard. So if you have 4:3 content, this will indeed be sent as 16:9 with black bars on the side.

I guess its just easier with a 16:9 display.
If content is 4:3 - Do nothing
If content is 16:9 SD with letterbox - letterbox detection -> Zoom
If content is 16:9 SD Anamorphic - do nothing, this should be stretched automatically
If content is 16:9 HD - do nothing, this is already 16:9.

In your case, applying Letterbox detection would mess up 16:9 content, since it would detect letterboxes on the bottom and then zoom.

Hi, Jonaskp, that is exactly what happens for SD & HD. All 4:3 pictures are surrounded by black bars on the top, bottom and sides. To view this picture on the full screen I have to zoom it.

You are also right in your assumption about letterbox detection messing up 16:9 content.
