I agree and plus pretty much everything that works with vista(hardware wise) will work
with xp plus more. Thats my main gripe about vista is hardware compatibility.

IMHO EVR looks way better than VMR9, sticking with XP is sticking with the past, MP must move forward with OS changes or it will eventually be left behind.

Vista's fundamentally flawed (just google the issues people are having with it) - New version of Windows should be available by the end of next year (2009).

    On the flip side...
I have recieved notification from M$, actively TELLING suppliers to stop selling XP and "provide a strong business case for Vista" - somoething I WONT be doing...
XP goes end of life in a few months too...

    IMHO...
MP works VERY well in XP - I regulary leave my HTPC in standby mode, the remote works flawlessly, the audio sounds great and the video quality looks fine on my plasma (you should not notice much difference betwwen VMR9 and EVR unless you have a +40" screen IMHO - even HD is difficult to tell!).
EVR IS better but not enough to make the OS change - the Vista issues just aren't worth the hassle!

Your decision... (this is AN OPINION! I really don't want to get into the "Vista vs. XP" debate AGAIN!!)
    :)

XP - rock solid stable and fast

I use Vista at work on a few different machines and have different issues with each. (outside of MP of course)

hmm maybe i will try evr in vista and then downgrade if its not that big of a deal. (or use the alleged evr in xp hack)

Thanks guys. Ok, spent the (whole) weekend on this lol. First; TVHeadend/Kodi.... Nah. Given up on that - 'non-tech'; its horrible. 'Tech' - a few reasons but mostly that it is buggy. It is actually a real shame as it does have potential and promises a lot (was great to have Kodi on my phone and be able to watch live/recordings...

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...

Thanks for ALL the assistance, Pablick! (and others who chimed-in) With all the attempts and edits, my drive (and brain) became massively cluttered and a little wonkey. I started from scratch, with a full uninstall of Media Portal components on my Backup machine. I let my insecurities manifest (I'm not proud of it :) ), and I...

Hi CyberSimian, Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I had looked for some kind of hardware solution (unsuccessfully) and your suggestion looks promising. However since posting the questionI have realised that MP itself provides a solution! Powerscheduler in Expert Settings mode provides an override function to put Windows into...
