Idealy you should only need a remote in which the MCE2005 remote w/ the teletext buttons is probably the best.

If you need to type then a MCE2005 keyboard probably wouldnt hurt but mice arent greatly used on htpc so unless you really need one (for programs outside MP) then I wouldnt bother. I havent seen a generally recommended one as not of lot of people have them (or one model in particular).

Yeah, you really only need the MCE Remote, as it can do everything within Media Portal. We also have the MCE Keyboard for normal Windows use, like iTunes and web browsing.

    MCE 2005 keyboard not working!!

My remote is working fine but the letters and numbers on my MCE Keyboard wont work at all!
does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix, would be handy for email, have a wired keyboard at the moment which defeats the purpose of the media centre.

Thank you for this tip! I'm moving MP TV Server to a new machine. I installed the 64-bit version and most of the MP firewall rules were set to Public. I couldn't connect to the new TV Server from my old single-seat installation running 32-bit until I changed all MP-related firewall rules on the new machine to Private. Before I did...
