Re: AW: Re: Windows 7 & half fullscreen

Thanks again tourettes,
with "HDMI Detective Plus" all is OKAY:))

Great to hear it's working. Good for you!

But no way i'm spending an extra $150 for a piece of hardware to fix this 'feature' Microsoft has introduced us to with Windows 7

Now I'm thinking about using HDMI for video only and thus connecting my Panasonic Plasma TV directly to my HTPC. So I'll end up using optical SPDIF connected to my Onkyo receiver for audio.

Perheps somone with ATI can verifes this.
"After setting my resolution, I stopped and then turned off a service called "AMD External Event Utility". This seems to have stopped the system from detecting my monitor dismounting every time"

Been there, done that ;). In my case (ATI HD4670) it doesn't help.

I have finally fixed it using the VNC option. Yeah !!!!!

Three possibilities:
  1. receiver on, TV on = display will be set to TV (In my case: 1920*1080)
  2. receiver on, TV off = display will be set to receiver (xx*xx)
  3. receiver off, TV off = display will be set to default (640*480)

How to fix:
  1. Install VNC server trial on your HTPC.
  2. Connect using VNC viewer to your HTPC while having the receiver and tv on.
  3. Turn off the TV (possibility 2). If you see that your resolution changes to something smaller, change the resolution within VNC viewer to the one set for possibility 1.
  4. Now turn off the receiver (possibility 3). You will see your resolution within VNC viewer re sizes to a default of 640*480. Again change your resolution to the one set for possibility 1. It could be that you need to uncheck the EDID override option to be able to select a high resolution. Not to set the refresh rate to the same as for possibility 1.

FYI, I tried that solution but it didn't work either. When I turn the TV off, the screen resolution does not change. But when I turn the TV on and the HDMI handshake starts with the HTPC, that is where I see the resolution changes down and then back up to 1280x720.

Sure, I could buy the HDMI detective device to keep the HDMI connection alive but my workaround of restarting MediaPortal every time the TV gets turned on via the harmony remote is working fine.

I had disabled TMM last year already to try solving this issue. I see it's still disabled. Maybe combined with the default resolution it fixes the problem?
