I have finally fixed it using the VNC option. Yeah !!!!!

    Three possibilities:
    1. receiver on, TV on = display will be set to TV (In my case: 1920*1080)
    2. receiver on, TV off = display will be set to receiver (xx*xx)
    3. receiver off, TV off = display will be set to default (640*480)

    How to fix:
    1. Install VNC server trial on your HTPC.
    2. Connect using VNC viewer to your HTPC while having the receiver and tv on.
    3. Turn off the TV (possibility 2). If you see that your resolution changes to something smaller, change the resolution within VNC viewer to the one set for possibility 1.
    4. Now turn off the receiver (possibility 3). You will see your resolution within VNC viewer re sizes to a default of 640*480. Again change your resolution to the one set for possibility 1. It could be that you need to uncheck the EDID override option to be able to select a high resolution. Not to set the refresh rate to the same as for possibility 1.

I have fixed it using your solution.

    Windows 7 & Ultramon - When switching TV/Receiver off, my resolution changed to 1024 X 768.

When resolution was changed, i remote controlled(with Ultramon) my Mediacenter, and corrected this to my native 1280 X 1024 resolution.

Tested to see, if this only was a onetimer, but it worked perfectly in every scenario/order I turn on/off my hardware.

Although we have found a fix, I still think, that this should be solved in Mediaportal - Mediaportal, should keep the Windows resolution even if it changes.

    Re: Workaround!

I still have the same problem if the TV (connected via HDMI) is switched off.
    Typical situation:
    - System is normally running with 1920x1080.
    - System starts automatically because of a scheduled TV recording. In this situation the TV is switched of and Win7 changes to a default resolution (800x600?) and MP also use this resolution.
    - The next time the system starts with TV switched on, Win7 uses the configured resolution 1920x1080 but MP does not use this resolution and stays with the default resolution (800x600?).
=> IMHO MP should also follow this resolution change but it does not :(

    Workaround solution:
I wrote a small application (AutoHotkey) which supervises the actual resolution.
If the resolution changes from a correct resolution to a wrong resolution
and later back to the correct resolution, it will send twice keystrokes [ALT]+[ENTER] to MP.
With this MP switches from wrong fullscreen to windowed-mode and back to correct fullscreen. :p
This application can be started in "Autostart" and shows some status on his system tray icon:
    - Used correct resolution (default 1920x1080).
    - Switched to wrong resolution counter.
    - Switched to correct resolution counter.
To set a other "correct resolution" it is possible to start this application with command line parameters,
    e.g. "ResolutionSupervisor.exe 1680 1050".
Maybe this application will also help some other nerved users...

I tried it with resolution 1360x768 but it doesn't seem to work for me. The numbers from NOK and OK Counter are going up but MediaPortal does not change to fullscreen.

I just bought Onkyo TX-SR508 for dev PC for the audio renderer work. Connecting it with HDMI and then turning it of causes the same issues you guys are seeing.

...and guess what? Just like I said those are fixable with the EDID override. Just follow the instructions in the AVS forum thread and GPU sees always the device to be connected. You need to remember that the EDID override is something that Microsoft has implemented and documented as well to be available, so it should work nicely.

EDID Overrides to solve bitstreaming issues for ATI 5xxx's - AVS Forum

Most likely the reason why it wont work is that you have been updating a wrong monitor INF.

    Hi

Experincing the exact same issues as you guys plus a HDMI audio connection loss with the bass player on top of it.

Most of the times MP seems to see the resolution change and resizes correctly but once in a while it stays in the halfsize mode. I have just tried the 5s delay fix, hopefully this will make it work all the times.

I tried the EDID override fix but it does not work in all cases tourettes. I have made an inf consisting of my Marantz AVR EDID and merged it with my Sony tv EDID. I tried with only tv EDID and tried with only Marantz EDID, nothing solves the problem. I have only one monitor so I am quite certain its the correct one that gets the override.

    Best regards
    Martin

    I have same problem,
    my setup:
    HTPC with Nvidia GT240 and Win7 64bit, Denon 1911, Sony W3000 plus Epson TW3500,
    my connection:
Hdmi from HTPC to Denon input then Denon to Sony W3000.
    my problem:
when turn off TV audio stop and resolution change, restore only with close Mediaportal and restart.
when turn off Denon same problem but sometime need to restart Windows to resolve and with Hdmi control On audio not pass to TV.
then i connect Hdmi directly to TV and Optical to Denon waiting to fix..

Today i buy this splitter to connect my Epson: IC Intracom Italia S.p.A. - Splitter amplificato HDMI 1.3b for 55€ and... incredible... all problem are gone!. I connect HTPC to splitter then one output to Denon and other to Epson. Sony Tv are connected to Denon output. Now i can turn off/on tv and no more audio stop or resolution change, i can turn on/off Denon, no problem, also when turn off Denon sound pass to Tv speaker and when turn on Denon sound are played from Denon again. Also Epson work prefect with no problem.

Have any of the last 4 posts tried AlexP0wr's solution!?!?

It worked like a charm for me on HDMI going through Onkyo receiver to TV.

But you of course needs an extra PC to connect with UltraVNC/VNC or similar(MS Remote Desktop will not work!)

ok I tried AlexP0wr suggestion, but was not able to get real vnc up and running for some reason. I installed ultra vnc instead and changed the resolution of the vga adapter which is the only monitor present when turning off tv and AVR. I was a bit sceptical as the VGA adapter only allows 1920x1080 with a 60 hz refresh, as opposed to my hdmi running at 1920x1080 at 50hz but it seems to have solved the half MP problem up until now (havent done any thorough testing yet)

if this is solved I am only facing a very frustrating problem which makes it impossible to play music/radio/dvd's if the HDMI audio connection was temporarily lost during a resolution change if tv/avr was turned off. GUI sounds are working perfectly, but when trying to play music I get a "unable to play". This seems to be fixed if I turn on live tv. Maybe the BASS player needs some kind of reset or something?

    Re: Workaround!

I'm sorry but it's still not working for me. I started it as MpResolutionSupervisor 1360 768 7 but in the systemtray it says 1920 x 1080 and delay 10. The NOK counter stops at 1 and MediaPortal doesn't change to fullscreen.
