Hi I'm in the same situation... running RC1.
It's with an integrated Ati HD3200 connected to an Onkyo 606 then to a Panasonic 46PZ86...
If I leave MP open and shut down the TV and AV, next time I turn them on MP has resized to a smaller size...

Can't MP GUI be made to detect resolution changes and adapt itself without closing and being run again?
Or, on the other hand, make it not to 'shrink' if it detects a smaller resolution...

BTW, already tried the EDID override, and it didn't help at all...

I have finally fixed it using the VNC option. Yeah !!!!!

Three possibilities:
receiver on, TV on = display will be set to TV (In my case: 1920*1080)
receiver on, TV off = display will be set to receiver (xx*xx)
receiver off, TV off = display will be set to default (640*480)

How to fix:
Install VNC server trial on your HTPC.
Connect using VNC viewer to your HTPC while having the receiver and tv on.
Turn off the TV (possibility 2). If you see that your resolution changes to something smaller, change the resolution within VNC viewer to the one set for possibility 1.
Now turn off the receiver (possibility 3). You will see your resolution within VNC viewer re sizes to a default of 640*480. Again change your resolution to the one set for possibility 1. It could be that you need to uncheck the EDID override option to be able to select a high resolution. Not to set the refresh rate to the same as for possibility 1.

Have tried this, but am having difficulty with last step (TV/Reciever off). My NVIDIA card reverts to an analogue display and doesnt allow the HD resolutions.
You mention the EDID override option. Is this an option on the VNC? I cant find it.
Any help appreciated :)

I had this trouble with my ATI card as well. I leave the HTPC on 24-7 and turn the TV off when I'm not using it. The problem in our case (TV on and off, computer always on) is that when windows detects that the display has been disconnected, it reverts to "default monitor" with limited resolutions.

I was able to get the TightVNC option to work for me with an odd resolution on my ATI card, you may have similar options with your nvidia cards, but all I have to work with right now is my ATI.

With my TV off, I used VNC to connect and found the res at 1024x768 on "Default Monitor" Where usually my TV's model number shows up.
First I went into windows 7 display properties, and on the monitor tab unchecked "Hide modes this monitor cannot display".
Then opened ATI CCC and on the Desktops and Displays screen, I clicked the down arrow on the "Default Monitor" (only one shown) and chose configure. I unchecked use EDID and set the maximum resolution as high as it would go (1920x1080) and clicked apply.
I then went to the display properties screen and set the res to 1920x1080 and clicked apply. At this point it shouldn't matter what your TVs max res is, because it's off. The only thing this res is getting pushed to is TightVNC.
Then I went back to the Default Monitor config screen and set the max resolution to my odd res (1776x1000) and clicked apply. The screen switched to 1776x1000 immediately, and stayed there, even though windows display properties and the display properties in ATI CCC still say 1920x1080.
Now whether my TV is on or off, the resolution is the same, 1776x1000.

I tested this after a restart and the res reverts to 1920x1080 instead of being mismatched so this would have to be done after every restart, if it even works for anyone else :/

AW: Windows 7 & half fullscreen

I had same issue with TV connected via:
    onboard ATI 4350 -> HDMI -> TV

Then I got resolution changes after turning on/off TV.

My current connection is a bit modified:
    onboard ATI 4350 DVI -> DVI/HDMI adaptor -> HDMI -> TV

And this works since months. Don't know if other things changed as well, because I stopped investigating...

    From Windows 7 SP1 documentation:

    Improved HDMI audio device performance
A small percentage of users have reported issues in which the connection between computers running Windows 7 and HDMI audio devices can be lost after system reboots. Updates have been incorporated into SP1 to ensure that connections between Windows 7 computers and HDMI audio devices are consistently maintained.

it could help a bit on some cases, who knows. Of course it is beta, so it should be used only for testing purposes.

I have this same issue but normally put my HTPC into suspend when not using it. I got round the resolution issue by just setting MP to restart on resume.

    Workaround!

I still have the same problem if the TV (connected via HDMI) is switched off.
    Typical situation:
    - System is normally running with 1920x1080.
    - System starts automatically because of a scheduled TV recording. In this situation the TV is switched of and Win7 changes to a default resolution (800x600?) and MP also use this resolution.
    - The next time the system starts with TV switched on, Win7 uses the configured resolution 1920x1080 but MP does not use this resolution and stays with the default resolution (800x600?).
=> IMHO MP should also follow this resolution change but it does not :(

    Workaround solution:
I wrote a small application (AutoHotkey) which supervises the actual resolution.
If the resolution changes from a correct resolution to a wrong resolution
and later back to the correct resolution, it will send twice keystrokes [ALT]+[ENTER] to MP.
With this MP switches from wrong fullscreen to windowed-mode and back to correct fullscreen. :p
This application can be started in "Autostart" and shows some status on his system tray icon:
    - Used correct resolution (default 1920x1080).
    - Switched to wrong resolution counter.
    - Switched to correct resolution counter.
    Command line options:
    "ResolutionSupervisor.exe 1680 1050 7"
will set correct resolution to 1680x1050 and the delay for sending ALT+ENTER
after detecting the correct resolution to 7 sec.
If no command line options are given the default resolutions (1920x1080) and delay (20 sec) will be used.
Maybe this application will also help some other nerved users...

    Re: Workaround!

Sounds good! I have the ALT-ENTER programmed to a key on my remote. This looks better, I will try it later.
