So this still isn't fixed by ATI / Windows? Have the same problem, so even when I want to record a TV Programm and turn off the TV and then turn it On after a while the MP Window changes resolution and MP crashes.
Without recording it just changes the resolution but does not crash...quite strange :D Have to try the VNC solution later!

I see there are quite a few people also having trouble with nVidia controls and settings. I really don't know why sometime they make it so diffult and un-user friendly. Is it just me or does is always just take longer than usual to make tweaks in nVidia menus. I keep a lot of my old PC crap in my Hilliard self-storage bin for safe keeping, or "Forgetting" LOL!!!

Tried the Remote solution yesterday but it didn't work at all because my HTPC doesn't change the resolution when turning off the TV. So I just killed some AMD Graphic processes and that just worked fine for me, have to find out now which one causes the problem.

Hmm killing the processes does not work that good...mp still changes resolution after turning the tv on...it works if i turn the tv off and back on in about 5 seconds but when i turn the tv off for a long time it does not work.

So I really don't know what to do now because mp crashes when i record and turn the tv off..mapping alt+enter would be a workaround but doesn't fix the recording problem. Any ideas what I could try now?? :(

I had a similar problem with my 1080i TV. When I switched the tv off before the pc, the pc would default to 1920x1080@60Hz, which my tv couldn't handle. So, I had to VNC into it to reset it back to 1920x1080@25Hz. I even wrote a bit of software to reset it as I also got general wierdness when I switched inputs on my HDMI switching AV receiver. I eventually found that disabling (and stopping) the AMD/Ati External Event Utility (in Services) did the trick. I am thinking this may be the same problem. I've just installed Windows 7 and MP 1.1.2 on to my client and have switched it on to see the same problem people are describing here.

So, I'm going to give it a try and see if it sorts the problem.

    Regards.

I wasnt able to fix this problem via software tricks with my nvidia card, so i just decided to get a HDMI Detective Plus unit, problems solved doesnt matter what the AMP and TV are doing it no longer effects the PC/Mediaportal in any way

I recommend it, but they are over priced which is the downside.

It is unreal that there is no solution to this other than buying a hdmi inbetween device.
This doesn't happen with the built in Media Center in Windows 7, so it is somewhat program based and not just an EDID issue

This is just soooo frustrating, I love MediaPortal but this is such a deal breaker for me. :(

Yeah..same for me. I even did a complete reinstall of Win7 but it's still crashing after turning TV off and back on again...and there's no way I gonna buy some small HDMI Device for 100$...:(

I found a solution for me that works AWESOME and there is no ned to buy any external device.

This solution will create a menu item that will fire restart.vbs (it's in your MP directory) and it will resize MP to your current resolution.

    Install Multishortcut
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...tishortcutsetup-multishortcutinstaller-89170/

Once installed, hit the "Generate" button.

Go into MP, plugings, click the new plugin, config.
Set the name to "Fix Screen" (or whatever), add the path to MediaPortal in path field and "restart.vbs" (no quotes) in the exe field.
    Save and restart MP.

Now you have a in menu option to restart MP and it will resize properly.

My wife is now back in love with me :p
