windows service pack 3 (1 Viewer)

so i got my machine up and running and i am trying to get media portal installed on my computer and it wants me install service pack 3 and windows media player 11 is there anyway around this.
I just wonder why you dont want to install SP3 as it contains numerous important fixes to the OS.
SP3 contains few media playback related updates that are required for smooth HTPC experience (like the updated quartz.dll).
checkout this page (GeneralRequirements - MediaPortal Manual Documentation) to make sure you have all requirements met. Also, make sure you install the DVBFix.
