Over on the GB PVR forums, some users have created some alternative programs to get EPG data from Yahoo. It looks like the programs obtain the data, parse it into an XMLTV file. If MP can read this file, this could successfully replace Zap2it when it goes down?

Yeah that's what it looks like. They piggyback on the 'Yahoo Go for TV' thing from yahoo and gets the guide data that way. Give it a try and see if MP will read its xml file.

Hey guys,

Sucks that Zap2it is shutting down, in the mean time however, the plugin seems to have stopped working. Using stable 0.2.2 with the stable plugin i started getting exception errors. So after finally discovering that it was the zap2it plugin that was causing the fault, i decided to install rc1, with it installed I tried all the zap2it plugins i could find, both the stable and the svn versions, and neither of them work. Wait for an update i guess.

thanks for a great plugin and i hope a work around will be found.

I just installed Yahoo Go For TV just for the fun of it and it picked up the guide data etc. just fine turns out it got it from Zap2it but I thought they stopped their service? I wish MP had a feature to download guide data like MCE and Yahoo Go For TV so easly :(

Mine is giving the exception error also, MP is great, but I cant use it if I cant get US EPGs.

If zap2it will not work anymore, what other options are left? For the US WebEPG seems to be way to complicated to setup, and time consuming.

Options?

HELP!!!

I agree WebEPG is way to complicated to setup I gave up on it I'd hate to have to switch back to MCE because I love the TVseries plugin so much :(

I hate to ditch this product but if i cant get a good EPG then it is kinda useless.

Also the zap2it service is not responding, the log files tell that is where the problem, but amazing enough Yahoo Go for tv uses zap2it and that plugin works great and easy, but way too many ads on yahoo to go.

I don't know about you guys, regarding what your signal source is, but I was using Local Broadcast (over the air) and I found out that zap2it had choosen to not allow that any more!

When I logged onto their website, I got the following error message: "Your previously selected lineup is no longer valid and has been automatically deleted.
    Please add a lineup!
    "

That is when I found they removed Local Broadcast completely!

If there are any suggestions on where to obtain free EPG data, I think many of us in the USA would like to know that. But I think free EPG is getting harder and hard to find!

Come on guys, lets quit complaining and start looking for solutions.

I get the crash too, had to disable the plugin.

According to the GB PVR forums, Yahoo is a paid subscriber to Zap2it and will not be effected by the shutdown.

Here is a direct link to the Yahoo Go For TV plugin: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?t=27546
The plugin "reads" the database from the Yahoo! program and creates an XMLTV file. If mediaportal can read this file, it's a possible solution. There's also a utility over there for TitanTV, although it is a bit more shady.
