It looks like the yahooxmltv.exe doesn't understand long file names. I got the same problem you had Dillusion, but then I ran it off the root of my C drive and it created the XML fine.

My problem is I can't figure out how to import it. I renamed it to tvguide.xml and copied it to the xmltv folder in the media portal program directory but it doesn't seem to import.

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know about you guys, regarding what your signal source is, but I was using Local Broadcast (over the air) and I found out that zap2it had choosen to not allow that any more!

When I logged onto their website, I got the following error message: "Your previously selected lineup is no longer valid and has been automatically deleted.
Please add a lineup!
"

That is when I found they removed Local Broadcast completely!

Just fyi, Zap2it had database problems all weekend.
The lineups were not deleted and should be back up now.
(They are for me at least)

It could be that I had an OTA (Over The Air) lineup. I dunno. But mine was gone and still is. In fact look below at what shows when I try to create a new lineup using local broadcast (AKA OTA).

Mine works fine, copy the XML file to the XMLTV folder, and make sure that is where the setup looks for the xml file, then run , media center, and wait, the file is for 14days it is REAL big, and media center takes a long time to decode it, also check your time zone, I had to adjust mine -2 hrs (in MP setup) to get the correct time.

    But it works.

As for zap2it, it still will not work for me :(

I'm attempting to try this tonight. Chspyder, did you notice on the GB PVR forums you can run the exe with command lines that can tell it how many days to download?

    Ok, it worked!!!

Here is what I did step by step:

    1. Download Yahoo! Go for TV http://sites.mobile.yahoo.com/go/tv/index

    2. Download latest YahooXMLTv utility from http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?t=27546

    3. Ran Yahoo Go for TV Install

    4. From command line, navigated to the Yahoo Go for TV Install directory and keyed "ygtvwizardhost.exe {11534277-7823-4E49-AFE6-587805632302}" without quotes. This allows you to choose and setup your lineup without going through the hassle of selecting a tuner and such. If the number above doesn't work, try browsing to the \plugins\wizard\tvlineups directory and open the TVLinups.plugin file with notepad and copy the plugin id and use that in place of the numbers in brackets above.

    5. Once I selected the lineup, I unzipped the YahooXMLTv download to c:\yahooxmltv.

    6. From commandline, I ran C:\yahooxmltv\YahooXMLtv.exe days=5
This tells the program to only get 5 days of data. The default is 14 days.

    7. Once the xml file was created, I manually renamed it to "tvguide.xml" and copied to MediaPortal\XMLTV

    8. I went into the MediaPortal config, to the Television => Program Guide and made sure the path to tvguide.xml was correct. Use time zone info from XMLTV file was checked, and I had to enter -4.0 Hours for the offset. Click on update guide with timezone offset.

    9. For fun, I clicked on Remove all Programs from TV database

    10. I then when to Television => TV Channels and click Import from TV guide.

Opened up MediaPortal, and all was well.

Some notes and wishes: What's nice about the utility is that once you have Yahoo Go for TV setup, you never have to go into it again. Everytime you run the utility, it automatically updates the channel listing. In the commandline you can tell the utility what directory to save the xml file in by using dir=
All we need is a script to run the utility and rename the file to tvguide.xml or be able to specify in MediaPortal the name of the XML file.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the instructions vort, worked like a charm. I find the simplest way to implement this is with a batch file. I created a batch file with the following instructions:

    c:\yahooxmltv\yahooxmltv.exe days=2 offset=-0500

    move /y "c:\yahooxmltv\*.xml" "c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\xmltv\tvguide.xml"

I'm in central time, but you can use whatever offset you need.
You will need the quotes for the directories because there are spaces in the names.

I just set up task scheduler to run this batch file and it creates the xml file, moves it to the xmltv directory, and renames it.

I'm running Vista business, but should work fine on other systems also.

    jingoro,

Thanks for the batch file, couldn't get it to copy the file, until I realized I had to change the *.xml to the actual filename of the xml file, duh :)

    Game_dude,

I had some issues with time zone too. I couldn't get it to update the database for some reason. Then, all of sudden, it just worked, I must have been keying something wrong.

Play with the timezone offset. For me, EST, I had to subtract 4 hours from the time in the file. So in the config, I put -4 in the first box, and zero in the second box. I then clicked the update button. Make sure you wait to get a confirmation that it was updated successfully. That should take care of it.

You can also run the utility commandline as shown in jingoro's batch file code. Type c:\yahooxmltv\yahooxmltv.exe and add offset=-0400 or whatever your offset number is. If you use this, in the Mediaportal config make sure you don't have any offset entered.

    Hope that helps.
