* if your used any test binaries from a forum thread: Yes "diasater123 editions"
* if you use MDAPI: No
* if you use and additional external tools (standby handler/etc): No
* if you use any webinterface: MPWebService was tested under RC2 but I deinstalled it
* if you use anything even remotly related to TvServer: using teamviewer for remote controll / puresync for backups on an external HDD
* your Operatingsystem: WIN7 32-bit

Such update option is not even supported. 3rd party forks aren't possible to be updated with MP installer. Too bad that the fork itself is not differentiating the binaries. IT SHOULD so the installer can work correctly.

I had the same problem with the update from RC2 to RC3.
Just before the update i made a backup and so i was able to return to my RC2 installation.
The second time i have stopped the TVService manually before installation and then it worked flawlessly.

The uninstaller of TvServer does stop the service.

If for some reason the service "crashes" instead of nicely stop, then the tvservice.exe will be locked by windows error reporting.
If that is what happened on your system, then your windows eventlog/system should have an entry about a crash.

I can remember that there was an error during the first installation process but don't ask me what.:sorry:

Did it say that it could not remove/replace files?
Because this "should" be showed to the user (unless the /silent switch hides it)

We still look for a common factor those users who have reported the issue share.
Webserver?
MDAPI?
... ?

We need everyone who has this problem to list in detail what they use(d) and what they had/have installed serverside.

Sorry i really can not remember. I can only remember that i instantly knew that the upgraded version will not work.
I reverted to my backup so i can not post my windows eventlog.:sorry:

I didn't use any SVN versions by disaster123. I used the disaster123 RC2 version. I know that his releases are not official supported by the team but I thought it could help you nevertheless.

Hi,

i had no problems with updating from RC1 to RC3. Works well.

But i found (its since SVN 24xxx) that the updater does sometime not kill the TVService.exe correctly.
Then the TVService is, for sure, locked and can't be overwritten (cause its running in the background).
I got allways this problem.

Now I always manually kill Mediaportal.exe, TVService.exe and the Tray before i update anything.

Since this time i never had any update problem.

I came across the same problem, update from RC2 to RC3, no "special release, or any plugins". After the installaion of RC3 the TVService.exe stays on 1.06xxx
A workaround: Stop the TV-servie in the taskmanager, go to your temp-directory, depends on your Windows-version, search for MediaPortal Installation. go to the folder "Deploy" start the package_tvserver.exe and folllow the hints, chose Install TV-Server and Plugin. After that reboot. After that, the tvservice.exe is updated to 1.07.

Seams, that the tv-service is not stopped correctly during the installation. I saw for a blink of an eye a red yield. Test on Windows 7 Ultimate 32

I don't suppose you have any logs for this?

Presumably the TV service will log when it is stopped, so there might be some timing information in the TV server and installer logs that will be of use. Does the installer check whether the TV service has successfully been stopped?

Only common factor in affected users seems to be PowerScheduler.
