It might be asking a lot, but can anyone give me instructions on how to set this up so the TV works? I have an AIW 9800 Pro, what version of the ATI drivers, MMC, video codec, audio codec, tv capture card setting, and other settings that need to be set up? Because I still only get a black screen. I'm using the first June 13 CVS version.

This is what I did:
ATI drivers = latest AIW drivers (5.6)
MMC = latest MMC (9.08)
video codec = ATI
audio codec = ATI
tv capture settings = default except for changing to VMR9 renderless under the TV options.
Also, install the lastest MP version and then copy the CVS version over the existing files/folders
I only problem I have is the CPU running at 100% but that may be because of my CPU speed.

Thanks a lot, I'll try it when I get back from work.

The AIW cards use a "hardware-assisted" software encoding. It's crap compared to a true PVR card, especially considering how bad ATI's software is....

Anyway, I upgraded to the latest drivers and MMC software, and MP works now, but my secondary monitor is out... it's on an old nVidia PCI card. Apparently ATI and nVidia's new drivers don't play along well... Tried installing ATI drivers first, tried installing nVidia drivers first, did a full ini and registry purge (probably overkill) in between each try, nothing worked. If I install the nVidia drivers first, the ATI drivers kill the monitor on the nVidia card when I install them. If I install the ATI drivers first, the nVidia drivers take over the primary monitor and force it to software rendering, making anything DirectX related impossible...

AIW 9700 and using autotune with latest CVS

Has anyone else received an error running the autotune feature when setting up their ATI AIW card in the TV setup section?
I never seemed to get the error until I applied the latest CVS.

No big deal because everything still works .... just wondering ....

9600xt

I have a 9600xt AIW. I get no TV audio.
I have set it up as follows:

The card is set as "ATI Rage Theater Video Capture (S/W)". If I set it to H/W I get no picture anywhere.

Line Input: ?? I have set it to spdif in and pcm render. I get no audio either way. I have not made any connections from the card to pc or other. Just the onboard ac97 spdif out to my receiver. Other audio works fine (ie. My videos).

Under the codecs tab, I've set it to use:

video: ati yuv12 video codec
audio: ati mpeg encoder

Under the television heading of configure i've got the mpeg2 codecs as:

video: mpeg2dec
audio: ?/AC3/?/?/? (just forgot)

I've uninstalled MCE2005 in search of this. Please help me get this going...I would much rather use this than MCE, but I cannot live without the DVR functionality.

Also...Is there a guide to setting up the channels? I had to download my guide, then use autotune and map each channel. It was the dumbest thing...

Please give me a hand, and thanks in advance for any advice.
My drivers are the newest catalyst, and the ati mmc 9.08.
I'm using the latest mp, (release, not cvs build).

Thanks in advance
jf

I had this problem for a while, it turned out that it was because I left the old card settings on after updating drivers.

Try removing the capture card settings in MediaPortal's configuration, and setting it up again.

nwhost1 I have the same problem as you where no picture if I don't select the SW option. The reason you don't have any sound when you choose this option is because you haven't connected the audio out of your ATI video card to line in of your sound card.

It isn't because yo uare using MCE as I reload with windows XP pro and still the same issue. The weid thing is I think it could be in the 5.6 drivers, if you have cat 5.5 try them.

Awesome -- thanks for the fast replies. I dont' have MCE installed anymore, but when I did, I didn't have to use a loopback on the sound at any time. Why must I do this now? What settings should I use.

I feel so dumb, but I just got this all installed and it's a pretty complex piece if you've never used it!!

I tried sticking the 2.5mm stereo plug from the AIW dongle into my line-in and i still dont' get sound out thru the spdif...I have ac97 audio, is there some weird setting i'm missing?

What settings are recommended. Do I have to choose S/w encoder? what codecs do you all recommend for decent file size? What do i select for audio line in? Spdif? (I cant use the spdif line in because the dongle for the 9600xt aiw doesn't have a spdif out to run to the pc in).

Thanks!

You shouldn't have to loop back to line in audio, because ATI drivers now use digital sound. Did you look at the MP log files for errors or try using Graphedit to get a graph while playing TV in MP? The graph would show you what filters MP is trying to connect for audio.
