    Hi again

Apparently Catalyst 11.5 and 11.6 are not so great (link). I'd advise you to go back to the previous version...

    Hi,

tried with Catalyst 11.4 for the second time. My patience slowly comes to an end (with this windows installation). My only problem is that I do not have any idea...

    Anybody out there?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi again TheMerovingian

So let me get this straight:
    1. You had a problem.
    2. It was somehow fixed.
    3. You upgraded to Catalyst 11.6.
    4. The problem came back.

The first rule of HTPCs is "never change something that isn't broken"! ;)
In other words, it was a bad idea to upgrade your video drivers unless you had a good reason to. Catalyst 11.6 seems to have had a few problems. At least I've seen quite a lot of problems that have been caused by attempting to upgrade. Reverting to 11.4 usually solved the problems. In your case, I don't know what is going on. You may find that you need to do a complete reinstall with 11.4 to clean up leftovers from 11.6. I've already suggested everything that I can possibly think of earlier in this thread:

    - reduce encoding quality
    - ensure frame rates match broadcast standard and display refresh rate
    - delete analog tuner XML config file and reconfigure

What solved the problem last time?

    Hi mm,

great too hear from you again.

Unfortunately it was not that simple.

    I made a little mistake in #9.

It was in the way, that a restart made my problem come back again when I had catalyst 11.5 installed.
Then I updated to 11.6 which did not solve the problem.

Yesterday I deleted the config multiple times but no change.

I even tried to start MCE, because this did not show this error but MCE now says it cannot find any channels, and it cannot find my analogue card...

Tried the latest WinTV Software from hauppauge, but it could not find any analogue channels, only the dvb-t ones.... so I uninstalled again.

The problem feels much more like a stuttering as if my computer was not powerful enough...

Because of this I also tried and changed the energy saving settings with no success..

I really do not know what the problem solved last time. I am right now not even sure if it was, because sometimes the problem to arise takes 2 to 3 seconds and when I thought it was solved I only checked the program for a second...

    Thank you!

Hmmm, well I wouldn't have thought that should be a problem for two reasons:
    1. The tuner has a hardware encoder, which should take the majority of the load of running an analog tuner away from the CPU. According to your logs, the encoder is correctly recognised and used.
    2. Even if you were using a software encoder, according to your logs the CPU you're using is a quad core 3.2 GHz. That should be more than powerful enough unless something else is going wrong.

You could use task manager to check the CPU usage while you're trying to view channels, however I think you'll find that there is no problem there.

Three or four other things that you could do/check:
    1. I think you're already using the latest driver, but you could try cleaning up the Hauppauge software (HCWClear) and reinstalling it.
    2. Check heat levels in your case. Sometimes overheating can lead to problems, and encoder chips may get quite hot.
    3. Try a different PCI slot (and possibly remove other PCI cards).
    4. Check PCI clock speed in the BIOS is set at 33 MHz.
    5. Use DPC Latency Checker to confirm that there are no bad drivers taking up too much IRQ (interrupt) time.

    Thank you mm,

    1. Tried last night. also tried a different driver -> no effect
    2. speedfan running -> Case temp always below 55°
    5. short test with dpc -> latency always below 230 mueS

    Okay then

If you can try the PCI fiddling at some point then please do. At this point I think you need to determine whether this is a system problem or a TV Server/MP problem. Have you got some other software that you can test with?
