why should one do this? .NET 2 seems to fullfill all requirements. No update without need.

.NET 3 "only" brings XAML / WPF to .NET 2.
Since MP will use these technologies in the future for the new GUI, it will use .NET 3 sooner or later.

okay cool, just thought the plans were for XAML for the skin engine so i thought it might be planned soon, thanks for the replies
