I did not reckognize big performance lost with Vista.

The biggest hit on performance with Vista is single channel memory, it becomes painfully slow compared to xp,
so its always better to have 2 x 512mb or 2 x 1024mb max for smooth running, if you go above 2 gig memory, chances are it will never be used.

I found this out when one of my memory modules failed.

hmm, for me the "custom resolution" works pretty well.

Its done as follows..DO NOT USE THE FORCE RESOLUTION something, or FORCE TV Detection.. because that screws it up!...(been there done that.. trust me)

It works as follows:

in the upper panel, Select the PAL resolution that suits your TV best , click apply (now the PAL resolution is added to the list below)
in the lower panel select the just added STANDARD 50Hz resolution, Apply
Click the Add button beside the selectable resolutions.. now you get the adjustment window. click on the arrows and schrink or expand the white window that it just fits your television screen, blue edge just invisible, it may be required to UNcheck the Keep aspect ratio to accomplish this.. really, with aspect ratio checked, it might just be the case the aspect ratio is WRONG, because the pixels are NOT square!

If all ok, click ACCEPT.. you turn back to catalyst now and a CUSTOM resolution is added to the lower panel, to make sure you keep this resolution, select this new custom resolution and click Apply display setting (or something) BESIDE the resolution panel, confirm setting with YES in 10 seconds

Thanx, but I can´t figure it out. I use the latest powerstrip, and can´t find "upper panel", "lower panel" etc. Could you be a little more specific like: first start Powerstrip, select display configuration...

Hi.
I have the Gigabyte 690G motherboard (GA-MA69GM-S2H) and also experiencing the freezing issue (windows XP).
At the moment I using XML's without the 'flipy' parameter.
I had opened a ticket at the amd/ati website (about a month ago) and finally I got a descent answer:
"we have reproduced the issue and have submitted it to engineering for investigation. We will update you as we get further information."

I hope this is a reason to be optimistic.

Ok, I thought you were a little familiar with Catalyst software.. You did install that, right? if not go to ATI.com and download the latest driver and software suite (8.2)

step by step:

Make sure yo watch via the HDMI
Open Catalyst (double click the ati logo in the system tray, or right click on the desktop and click ATI CATALYST control center)
Make sure you are in the Advanced mode, when you open Catalyst for the first time you can choose basic or advanced, tick advanced and click next or click on the Advanced button lower left corner when you are in basic view.

Ok we are in Advanced view
On the left menu tree, click on DTV (HDMI)
Click on HDTV support submenu, now you get the two lists with all the resolutions.
In the upper list called "HDTV modes supported by this display" tick the add PAL(for me 720P50) resolution that best suits your TV
click apply at the bottom. Now the PAL resolution is added to the list below.
Select the standard PAL resolution you just added in the list below called "predefined and custom HDTV formats"
Click "Apply format" buttom at the right of the list.. image will flicker to set the new resolution.. Click "yes" to accept

Ok now your TV is set to a standard resolution, probably the image is distorted, black bars on the top and bottom or sides, or som portion of the image is disapeared because it is too big for the screen, right?

To correct this, you can eather use Over/under scan if your TV supports this (best solution if it works) or you must adjust the resolution by adding a Custom Format, as ATI calls that.

To try over/underscan, in the left menu select "scaling Options" submenu of HDTV (HDMI).. If it is greyed out your TV does not support this, if not, just play with it till you find a good setting, make sure you tick "use scaling options instead of ..etc", and click apply to save the setting.

If scaling doesnt work, you must set a Custom Format

Go back to the "HDTV support" submenu
Because we are in a standard format, the button "Add" beside the list with standard and custom formats became active. Click on it.
Now you see a big white screen with maybe some blue edges and the adjustment buttons in the middle. Click on the adjustment buttons untill the white image just fills your screen completely, turn off "keep aspect ratio" if required to accomplish this (note that pixels on a TV are NOT square, so keeping the aspect may result is a distorted (flatter or thinner) image.. when the resolution just fits your screen, image is correct, squares turn out to be square, circels are really circles).. a good way is to make sure you see the blue edges and then turn it back untill the blue just disapears. When set the right resolution (this can be a weard one like mine 1232x688), remember or write down the new resolution and click the Accept button.
Now the Custom Format is added to the list "predefined and custom HDTV Formats"
Select the just created Custom resolution and click the "Apply Format" button on the right .. Image flickers..and Click YES to keep it.

Done!

Close Catalyst by clicking the OK button, and NOT by the red cross!.. because then the new setting is saved for the next time tou start up your computer.

Ig catalyst refuses to keep the resolution after wake up from hybernation or a computer restart, it might be necessary to Force catalyst to use the custom resolution. To do this, open catalyst in Advanced mode
click on Display manager menu on the left, click on the Force button on the lower right and corner. Select Display area and select the resolution as created above (in my case 1232x688) and click Apply at the bottom.. image flickers to set the new resolution.

Done

Click OK to close catalyst (not the red cross)

If this doesnt work, I think it is better for you to find someone to help you on site..

Yes I was. I was thinking all the time you are talking about Powerstrip. I played with this for 2 Months with an older version of CCC and abandoned this because the Scaling option instead looked OK. But this is supported only with 60 Hz. I tried again as you suggested and worked well, I gave you a thank.

Howdy. Just welcoming myself to the club, I'm using GA-MA69GM-S2H from Gigabyte w/XP Pro with the same symptoms as others. For some reason the flipy fix didn't work for me at all. It is a very annoying problem. Someone suggested that 7.2 release of CCC was the last version which worked fine. What will I lose if I were to switch to this earlier version?

You have to remove the 'flipy' line completely. Changing it to 'flipy=false' didn't solve the problem for me.

for the tip. This made MP much more stable. It did hang on the weather page again but I think it was something else as I had to kill the application because alt+enter didn't help this time.
