How your audio is connected? with SPDIF? Could you try using analog cabling? Also try to remux & encode the audio to some other format (like mp3) that cannot be streamed directly over the SPDIF.

Im using HDMI for the audio/video, mostly flac for the audio ( no need for mp3? )

ok, flac should be similar to mp3 (i.e. decoded on the PC side before sent to amplifier). Could you test the analog audio cables as there could be some issue with the way how audio renderer works with SPDIF / HDMI.

will try with headphones asap , dont see why this would be any different though ( no problem with windows media player...)

yesterday i took the time to try windows 7 out... (64bits RTM)

guess what?

no more sync problems at 24hz!!!!!

I have tested

DTS (AC3filter SPDIF out) = no sync issues!

AC3 (AC3filter spdif out) =no sync issues!

FLAC (MadFLAC) = no sync issues!

FFdshow for video

Reclock is used as audio renderer and set to accept spdif formats.

HDMI drivers : 229 from realtek
Ati drivers: 9.7
Mediaportal 1.1 alpha with the latest svn installed

But here comes the next problem.... The automatic refreshrate changer does not work anymore :-(, but hey... one step closer to perfection! This avsync issue have really bothered me from the day i got a 24hz capable TV. who would know that the answer would be Windows7.

I must say everything feels so much more fluid with windows 7. Even the seeking in videofiles from mediaportal goes so much faster and smoother than with my old vista 64 edition.

Hi there anvandarnamn,

Can you confirm that if the refresh rate changer was not working for you, that you were manually changing the refresh rate to 24hz prior to testing a 34hz video file?

A 24 ps file plays back without the sync issue if the refresh rate is on 50 or 60 hz.

Which model of ATI graphics card do you use.

I would be interested in trying out Windows 7 based on your findings but want to double check a couple of points with respect to your testing.

Thank you.

Hi!

the refreshrate changer is not working, i just end up with a blank screen, without a refreshratechange or any video playing...

I have manually changed the refreshrate to 24hz before starting mediaportal.
Reclock reports 24,000 hz , and everything works fine...
I Have tested various 24p remuxed blurays (MKV ) and various reencoded blurays (also mkv) with DTS, AC3, And flac audio.
Everything seems to be working as it should with Windows 7.

Be sure to set the decoderchain in mediaportal though ( not the automatic directshow checked)
or else the evil windows7 decoders will take over no matter how high your ffdshow priorities are ...

I have a ATI 4350 and im using the HDMI out for audio and Video

Now to just solve the atomatic refreshchange problem :)

Great, thanks for the reply.

I think, in that case, I will try a reinstall when they release Mediaportal 1.10 and combine this with an install of Windows 7.

I have an ATI 4550 which should behave identically to your 4350.

I am assuming you are using a Device reset in the Automatic Refresh rate chnager. Had you thought of alternatively using batch files? - this might work for you.

Thanks.

I sadly do not have any W7 license yet - so it's gonna be a bit tough fixing that "dynamic refreshrate changer" issue :(

Ok now i got everything working, automatic refreshratechange is being done with batch files that loads different ATI profiles - works like a charm!

At last! Silky smooth playback at 24hz with no AV delay what so ever! :p:p:p:D

    thankyou WINDOWS 7!

    For your information,

    Vista 32 ultimate.

I test many many codecs (free or not). I always have sync problems exept with the power DVD codecs 8 & 9.

I use now : Power DVD 9 for SD, Power DVD 8 for HD (sometime with the PDVD 9 HD codec the video is black, I have only sound), AC3filter and the default directx sound device (HDMI for me, I desactivate the SPDIF device).

When I go ahead or back in a video the PDVD codec auto make a sync. (you can see in on the video, there is some small jumps, smallers, smallers and the video is quickly stable)

The problem is that if I insert any filter, the autosync don't work. Impossible to use ffdshow to make a upscale, impossible to use directvosub...

I think that there is a problem somewhere.

In the same time we can chose codec for mpec/H264 but I don't understand how medialportal chose the AVI codec for example. I changed codecs merits but MP don't chose the codec I want. It's a mistery for me.

    Hi anvandarnamn,

Now that you have everything working well, could you confirm which codec you are using for x264, and which one you are using for XVID.

I would be interested to know if you are using MPC-HC for hi def stuff.

    Thank you.
