I figrued out, that EVR (running Vista SP1) renderer was the problem. Since I don't use hardware acceleration, I'm using VMR9 at the moment. But I plan to upgrade my graphic card to add HA support, so I will need EVR again.
When I find some time, I will test and post my log files, maybe starting a new support thread. I already tested once, but couldn't find any problems in the log files. Maybe I've overseen something.
A friend of mine with absolutley different hardware setup is getting the same audio lag @ 24Hz.

I have the excact same issue when running 1920x1080P@24hz, mkv files run like a dream but dvd-r movies stutter with nvidia or ffdshow codec. With MPV codec the video jumps every 5 seconds or so, like it's trying to catch up with itself or something.
Xvids are out of sync almost a second or so.
But running the dvd-r movies in windvd9 there is no problem whatsoever, same with xvids in WMP11.

There is some issue with mediaportal concerning this, I just can't wrap my head around what it could be.

Perhaps Reclock should be used, gonna have to try it out.

And the reason why i don't run 60hz is because the tv won't accept it at that resolution.

Just thought that i would let you know that more people are having this issue.

I've noticed this audio lag at 24hz too, have set a delay with the ffdshow audio codec to get round it but there is definitely a bug of some sorts (using EVR)

So, can we say this is a bug of MP or has anyone successfully played a file at 24Hz without sync problems?

This is definetly an MP bug. I tried different steups from Nvidia 8200, 8300 Ati 4550, Intel G45 and different codecs, audio renderes, reclock.

And all comes down to this.

    - Almost all setups run fine using 50Hz refresh rate and 25fps PAL videos in WMP and MPC and EVR renderer.
    - Almost all setups run fine using 50Hz refresh rate and 25fps PAL videos in MP and WMR renderer.

    - NONE (!!!) of the setups plays this content perfectly in MP using EVR renderer. Some configs have stutter, some has AV sync problems, AND they all showing WRONG fps numbers in graphedit when i check the EVR framerate (and i have 3 input pins for it compared to WMP's one pin)

It is 100% and MP bug. If stutter occurs, sometimes a pause or even a drop down menu appear makes it better temporaraly. There is now such thing in WMP or MPC-HC.

This way i have to use MPC as an external player with a correct EVR implementation.

Thanks anyway to the developers of MP, because it is still far the best MC program !!!

Maybe those who also experienced those 24Hz lag can post theire experience also in the support thread located here:
    Bug Report

Slurm posted a short description when and under which condition the lag appears, use it as starting point to provide feedback.

im also having this problem... do not want to use reclock as it alters the audio....
everything works fine in windows mediaplayer...

seems like mediaportal is giving false information to the renderer (in my case EVR)
the reported framerate in the EVR properties while playing a movie in mediaportal is like 60000 or something like that, when playing the same file in windows mediaplayer it is reported at 23.976 like it should be....

so theres certainly a bug in mediaportal preventing the EVR renderer (or any other) to retreive the correct framerate.
Oddly enough there is no problem while keeping your refreshrate at 60hz, but mediaportal still gives the incorrect framerate though...

    Hi,

been using (well, trying to) the refresh rate changer since it's inclusion in latest svn. Everything seems to be working correctly, except 23.976fps files. These files, all .avi format, when played back with the screen changed to a 24hz refresh rate, keep getting further and further out of sync with the audio. This happens whether I use the refresh rate changer or set the refresh rate in the nVidia control panel. These files play back fine (barring the judder) when screen is set to 50hz.
Is this a codec issue? I've been using ffdshow for .avi files.
Any thoughts on how to deal with this issue would be greatly appreciated.:D

I'm having this problem too - reported here

    Any progress on fixing this?

    Hi Guys,
I would just like to chime in that I also have the problem at 24Hz. Like others, I have tried a number of audio codecs in conjunction with EVR and VMR but no luck. I only came across Media Portal last week and I am so impressed by it - I really want to use it but I'm not prepared to go back to 60Hz and pulldown. Is anything being done about this problem ?

    Kind Regards,
    TiVo.
