Hi Guys,
I would just like to chime in that I also have the problem at 24Hz. Like others, I have tried a number of audio codecs in conjunction with EVR and VMR but no luck. I only came across Media Portal last week and I am so impressed by it - I really want to use it but I'm not prepared to go back to 60Hz and pulldown. Is anything being done about this problem ?

Kind Regards,
TiVo.

agree! , this problem really needs to be fixed ....

Same issue here. I have tried powerDVD and MPC-HC codec for video and ffdshow and ac3-filter for audio. It does not make a difference. The longer I watch a 23.976 movie on 24Hz the more the video gets out of sync. I am on XP, using VMR9, an nvidia 9500GT and SPDIF out to my AV receiver.

Just want to chime in that im having the same problem here with a ATI card on Vista x64 using EVR. I would like to know if anyone has tried disabling subtitles in the MP config screen. It might have fixed the problem for me.

Hello all,
MP 1.0.0 + SVN Feb 28.
Vista Home Premium. Gigaybte 780G-S2H. Ati HD3200.
Standalone filters 3.44.

When I'm playing 23.976FPS material and set resolution to 1920x1080 @24Hz, playback is smooth and perfect, but audio (SPDIF) is slightly out of sync. It's almost not noticiable, but the audio comes some miliseconds before the video. The out-of-sync issue DOES NOT increase as I'm watching the movie, in fact sometimes seems like it's magically fixed then sometimes it comes again.

This thing does not happen when setting resolution to @50 or @60Hz, but I then have jerky playback.
Tested with plenty of files at 23.976 FPS (avi or mkv). Always happens.

Automatic Refreshrate Changer does not help on this. It changes the resolution correctly to 24Hz, but then the out-of-sync comes. Does not happen when file is 25FPS (so ARC sets 50Hz).

I have no chance to deactivate subs, as I need them. No changes with .str (external) or embeeded .mkv subtitles.

Although it's a sooooo minimal issue, it is not pefect as it should be.

Regards,

Yes this is annoying the hell out of me - I have been doing a lot of testing and have some observations.

The issue, in my case at least, is experienced with hi-def mkvs.

I use Vista 32, EVR and MPC Video codec with Integrated HD3200.

Interestingly, I find the refresh rate changes to 24hz and the movie plays fine if MPC can render the movie using hardware acceleration i.e. my CPU usage is below 10%

Any movies using this codec that are not rendered using HA seem to incur audio (vocal) lag. This can be quite significant and very noticeable.

If I render the mkv in Graphedit, check the codecs, and then play it in Graphedit, it plays fine.

I am using AC3Filter but to be honest, I don't think this is anything to do with the audio encoder.

Althought the mkvs using software decoding exhibit lag, this is not due to spiking of the CPU to 100% - the CPU cores remain within 50%-80%.

If I disable refresh rate changes, the audio is not affected, but I get stutter in the picture (obviously).

This seems to be something to do with the refresh rate changer and Mediaportal's rendering.

I hope this info is of some help. I realise that others have these same problems with different codecs/ hardware etc. but I thought it was very interesting that in my case all movies that are rendered by MPC with HA are OK.

Is there a way I can remux an exisitng mkv to make it suitable for HA renedering?? - I am afraid I am pretty unfamiliar with all this mkv container stuff, so apologise if I am asking a stupid or impossible question.

Althought the mkvs using software decoding exhibit lag, this is not due to spiking of the CPU to 100% - the CPU cores remain within 50%-80%.

On dual core systems the 50% CPU usage is already on the edge where the CPU is too busy as MPC codec is mots likely not threaded for two cores. I.e. it could be the reason on some cases.

Please test with some other video codec (like CoreAVC), maybe this is indeed a codec issue that we are able to trigger with MP code.

Having tried to pick up a lot of this very quickly, I have discovered that all the files giving me probs with MPC are level 5.1 compliant and not 4.1.

However, software decodong renders these fine outside of Mediaportal so maybe it is something you should be aware of.

CoreAVC for me is the most reliable of the decoders and I don't get the audio lag problem with this except on one movie when I ship forward. however, onece it plays, having skipped forward, if I skip backwards 15 secs it corrects itself.

The reason I am anxious to use MPC and not CoreAVC is that although I have a AMD x2 5600+, very, very occasionally software decoding in COREAVC touches te limits of my CPU for a split second.

Like I said, the 5.1 compliant files render fine outside of Mediaportal using MPC nut they have reference frames in excess of 5 which I understand is the limit for proper Hardware decoding so maybe there is something in the Mediaportal code outside of the codec that is upset by this??

Thanks - hope this is helpful.

    Same setup and same problem.

E8500 @ 30 % (with ffdshow-upscaling), have tried without upscaling but it is no difference.

Meanwhile I changed to Vista, but the problem continued. For me the solution was to use Reclock as audio renderer for videos.
