Is anyone testing this who uses the existing audioscrobbler auto playlist feature? I would be interested in how they compare
    Hi,
Yeah, I do & when I listen to group like Funkdoobiest Auto DJ didn't find any similar compared to existing scrobbler which found some tracks, only happen once so far :)

    Regards

While you are at it, last.FM still overrides the cover-image for music being played.
If I play a CD, some music from the plugin "Rockstar" og an MP3-file from the built-in "Music" plugin, whenever I go to the Last.FM screen, the cover is removed (Last.FM replaces it, even though the music is not playing throug Last.FM plugin).

The problem goes away when switching to next track (manually or automatically).

As far as I know, this is the same issue I reported back in this thread:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...eams-in-mediaportal.11217/page-28#post-817750
and in an even older thread:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/cover-art-not-updated-my-music-last-fm.52750/ <--- 2009!!!

Would be nice if this was fixed ;)

I think I reported that even earlier! That I think is the last.fm plugin not the audioscrobbler plugin which is what I am trying to replace currently.

    Will have a look anyway

OK new version in first post which cleans up some of the code, fixes a few small issues and now makes scrobbling work (in theory anyway) from tracks not in the database (CDs, shares etc).

Not getting much feedback on this so it could be:
    • No-one is interested in last.fm
    • No-one is interested in auto DJ feature
    • Everyone is happy with the current setup
Would be interested in any feedback so at least I know where to target my efforts

just found this ... don't know how I missed it.

I use Last.FM almost continually as I work. I'll have to try it out. Although I'm not unhappy with Last.FM as it is, I will see if there is a noticeable difference.

I don't really understand how Auto DJ differs from the regular scrobble in playlist.

How do you know if it working?

 ... I must be daft. when I disable Audioscrobbler, I cannot exit config with OKAY. it keeps asking me to config the Audioscrobbler plugin.

do I need to rename anything? or reenable the Audioscrobbler plugin?

The AutoDJ works on local content only (the same as audioscrobbler playlist stuff) rather than remote stuff like the last.fm plugin (that is still the same as they don't actually support streaming any more)

Is this complaining about the password or the last.fm plugin? IIRC it will not let you exit until you have entered a password and also I don't think it will let you exit with the last.fm plugin enabled but the audioscrobbler plugin disabled.

If you turned off scrobbling and announcing tracks in the audioscrobbler plugin it would probably archive the same result.

My plan is to remove the audioscrobbler plugin alltogether (along with the limited hidden functionality it has) and replace it with the new API and possibly some improvements. The only change to the last.fm plugin will be moving the password to the last.fm plugin config.

The reason behind this is two-fold.

Scrobbling - I often find the existing code sometimes stops scrobbling and I know some forum users have reported it not working at all. It is an old deprecated API and in theory could be switched off at any time. So first part is improving this (which seems to work pretty well and I think the only thing outstanding is offline scrobling and making it a little more usable)

Auto Playlist - Currently there is some functionality within the audioscrobbler plugin that adds tracks to the playlist (and also picks up top tracks for the now playing screen). I find this very hit and miss. I rarely get a good playlist this way and often it does not add anything.

One thing I would be interested on is thoughts on how to generate auto playlists. Currently is calls the API (http://www.last.fm/api/show/track.getSimilar you can play with examples here to see what info it brings back) and checks which of the similar tracks exist in the local database. It then picks a random one which does do a better job of filling the playlist but is prone to drifting.

There are lots of other API methods we could use but most don't seem to really add anything ?? The artist and album info are promising to replace the allmusic
.com scraping (this is a proper API so does not break each time the website changes and is also localized with several languages available; the downside is the reviews are not as good as allmusic)

Haven't been listening to music much lately (mostly have the radio turned on), but did a quick test, started playing 1 song and watched the 'progress'. Must say that i'm pretty impressed on the scrobble results. Somehow all songs blended in really nice together ;)

I assume that more options will/can be added (for example the number of songs being added), because 1 thing that 'annoyed' me was the fact that only 1 track was added, so if i (for some reason) wanted to skip that track, i would have to wait till the next is added.

Auto Playlist: Would be really nice if we can have those without having to select the first song also, for example based on genres. You select a genre you want to listen to and the plugin will generate the entire playlist based on the 'input' and files in dB.

    Little update:

Had it running for a few days, and this works way better than the AudioScrobbler.

First i tried AudioScrobbler and added 2 songs to the playlist.
Result: 2 songs play, that's it. So nothing got added.

I've added 1 song to the playlist this morning around 11:00 and it has been playing for about 5 hours now :)

Also the way it scrobbles is really nice. When i add 1 song (Birdy in this case) i get 90%+ female vocalist in the playlist.

Only noticed 1 double entry in the playlist.
