This may be the issue, though the resolution doesn't work for everyone:
MEDIAPORTAL - free MediaCenter HTPC Software - MediaPortal gets minimized to tray when playback of an avi is started

I didn't find this worked, other option is to change to EVR renderer in MP config or disable 2nd tickbox option under VRM9 (something about keeping MP on top) - this one may cause tearing, but i didn't find any tearing - so all good for me.

and one more thing: after refresh rate changed playback always starts from the begining of the movie even if i have chosen to continue playing from last position

yeah same thing here!

I attached tonights error log, maybe someone knows what the errors mean. It's about the problem, not starting in fullscreen after resolution/refresh rate change (described before).

gibman, regarding the resolution not returning if the video ends rather than bein manually stopped please check the attached logs, in Mediaportal1.log i let the file af320.mpeg end without intervention, the screen did not return to default and the log shows

2008-09-28 15:35:37.122913 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.Process() player stopped...
2008-09-28 15:35:37.122913 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.OnEnded()

In the mediaportal2.log file i manually stopped the file from playing and it returned to the default resolution, the log shows

2008-09-28 15:56:03.440547 [Info.][MPMain]: GUIVideoFullscreen:stop
2008-09-28 15:56:03.441547 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.doStop() keepTimeShifting = False keepExclusiveModeOn = False
2008-09-28 15:56:03.442547 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.OnStopped()
2008-09-28 15:56:03.447547 [Info.][MPMain]: GUIVideoFiles: OnPlayBackStopped idFile=36 timeMovieStopped=1 resumeData=
2008-09-28 15:56:03.450547 [Debug][MPMain]: GUIVideoFiles: OnPlayBackStopped store resume time
2008-09-28 15:56:03.451547 [Debug][MPMain]: GUIVideoFiles: No LoadDirectory needed OnPlaybackStopped
2008-09-28 15:56:03.452547 [Info.][MPMain]: TvRecorded:OnStopped Video C:\Media\Videos\af320.mpeg
2008-09-28 15:56:03.453547 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.doStop() - stop

I think the g_Player.OnStopped() message is not ocurring when the file reaches the end and so refreshrate changer does not know to return to the default setting

Thanks for looking into this.

    Thanks for that, the only other issue i have is that the plugin does not work on the second starting of a file. i.e. If i try to start a video it will change the refreshrate as required, then i stop the video and try to start another one, almost 100% of the time there is no refresh change but the file does start playing. I'll do some testing and post up shortly.

    Again i'm so grateful for your work on this plugin and love the smooth playback that it allows, its this kind of thing that keeps MP well ahead of the competition.

    the problem is that MP doesn't minimise on this movies if I disable refresh rate changer. i tried to use cyberlink powerdvd decoder - the same problem...

    Also if I disable exclusive mode under VMR9 config than i get the tearing :( EVR renderer runs very very slow - unusable at all...

    First of all I have to say a big thank you to gibman:D! As I have now a new tv that's capable of the different refresh rates this is one of the most useful plugins and I wish it could go into core.

    I'm a nvidia-user (always was and will be - had some bad times with ati) and here are my findings:

    As long as you set <devicereset> and <use_default_hz> to no everything works great. Otherwise you'll have the problems described here with not resuming the movie and I also wasn't able to use myTV (TVServer - gave me card in use or so).

    When only using <use_default_hz> I had problems with myTVSeries to look very distorted when returning from an episode. I wish this could be solved (but I'm sure it's more a problem of the series plugin) so I can use this feature too and have my default Hz restored in any other application.

    Hi,

    I have been using Mediaportal for quite some time now and this seems like an icing on the cake option to me. I am planning to replace my CRT TV with a Full HD LCD TV and was wondering if you guys have any pointers as to what i need to take into account when buying this new TV.

    I am running MediaPortal on Vista with an ATI 3450 video card and S/PDIF out to my receiver. Do i need to look for capabilities to display certain refreshrates natively or doesn't it matter when using this feature in combination with PowerStrip?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Aal,

    I think the nicest solution is a LCD/Plasma which supports 24,25, 30 50 and 60 hz input signals. Ofcourse you can do without 25 and 30hz, their just nice to have.. :)
    Its also nice if the native resolution is 1920x1080 or 1280x720. Ofcourse preferably the first one here... But all this is nice to have.
    These numers are just specs. Its also good to know what the TV's engine is doing with the incoming signal. Like sometimes a 1920x1080 is internally downscaled to 1280x720 to be processed by the engine. (100hz/movie effects etc..) and afterwards upscaled again to 1920x1080. This does not do the image quality a lot of good. A lot of the older LCD's have this. Newer LCD;s probably not anymore because they have more processing power and can process the 1080p signal.... A high quality TV review site is HDTV Reviews – LCD TV & Plasma Television Display Rating

    Nice detail: I have an ATI 3450 as well and conected spdif to my receiver. I use a 32" Sony (D3000 series). Im very happy with it even though the native resolution is 1366x768... doesnt bother me.

    Good luck

    Thanks for this great plugin, this is a function that I've been looking for since moving to Media Portal from MCE couple weeks ago. I am using a Nvidia 9800GT and it is working well with the nvcpl commands. I play ifo, avi, mkv, rm, rmvb, ts

    Couple of issues...
    1) I am using an external video player (Zoom Player) for all videos, and it does detect the framerate of the file upon loading and changes the refresh rate correctly. But....when I stop/exit the player, it does not revert back to the default refresh rate. I do have the default refresh rate setting set to 'yes'.
    2) When loading DVD files, the DVD menu's frame rate is used to determine the framerate of the movie. For NTSC movies, almost all of the DVD menus run at 30fps but the movies are 24fps. With the current implementation, my display's refresh rate will be set to 60Hz instead of 24Hz.

    :D
