Test with the Files, doesn't work, here's the log:

Your missing the CornerStone.dll. I assume you haven't installed the Moving Pictures plugin?

I get the same error as Peppo when trying to launch the Avallanche editor.

    Steps taken:
    - full uninstall of media portal. Including deletion of mp folders under program data and under program files(x86)
    - installation of media portal 1.7.1
    - installation of latest media handler and Fanart Handler
    - installation of Avallanche 1.6.0.1. With editor version for MePo 1.7 ( tried 1.6 with the same steps after 1.7 failed. Only thing that changed was the Cornerstone, Version=1.2.... )
    - Import tv channels
    - try to open editor

Files above did not change behavior in the editor case or the EPG. Here's the traces for opening EPG (or do you want the whole zip file?):

    I still have following issues:
    - Fixed by installing moving pictures as stated above: skin editor fails to launch
    - missing recording icons for season ticket programs in the EPG. Single recordings show up fine. This one has been there for ages (at least for me) and I had forgotten about it until someone above mentioned it.

+1 for me as mentioned above!

Is this feature or a bug? Any pointers where to start debugging the issue?

Yes, somwhere in the skinfiles font9 is used but not defined in font.xml. Either add a font with name 'font9' to font.xml or delete font9 from the xml skinfiles.

Does it have to be a real font file or a dummy file?

As Holzi wrote - it's not that big of a deal (still i wonder from which xml this comes from).

First of all - are you using teh Avallanche or a theme? If you use a theme there might be a separate font.xml in the theme folder. When you look in the xml you see about 20 different entries for the fonts used (i think i read somewhere thet 20 is the maximum). The one you are seeing in the logs should not be there. You can simply add a line and name it as the missing font.

Or - this is what I would preffer - you let Windows search through the xml's a check for the ones using the missing font's. There you only need to replace them with one fitting out of the font.xml. I would be interested to know which one these missing font use.

The syntax ia rather self explaining - so no miracles done there.

Ah - what is a season ticket program? If it is not shown it must be a visibility issue (I assume the record is working?) so what you would need to do to find it is to look for the xml holding the entry - maybe by searching for the record icon used in the epg an look for all xml's where this pic is used - one of these shoudl be the one responsible.

When I do fixups it also rather try and error - as long you keep a copy of teh original files nothing bad can happen if you mess up. As the sink itself is more community driven than other ones here every one is welcome to play his part :) - I sure sweborn is happy to include a fix in the next release if soemone can provide one.
