it would be great if you guys experiencing that problem could somehow supply your files, where this error happens.

I get the error on all video files I have tried, seemingly regardless of format. Also tv streams. As mentioned above, screen configuration fixes things for the session.
What may have trigger the behavior was setting font size to large at one point. After reading in these forums that that may have caused this problem somehow, I set it back to normal (unreadable) format. Several upgrade versions later this unfortunate problem persists though...

Just adding another vote for the screen calibration method. I had the top left a couple of pixels to the right and setting back to 0,0 fixed me up. For the mantis bit. I found only certain xvids were affected and the codec had nothing to do with it. Id est. using libavcodec or native xvid made no difference. Also the movies play fine in MPC and WMP so i would suggest that it is purely a problem with the resizer thingy (technical term for it, didn't ya know) in the internal direct show player.

I was having the black screen problem on some dvds as well. Eventually I got fed up with the problem and decided to use media player classic for videos, which plays everything just fine.

Depends if it's a codecs issue or the same as that Mantis bug, you have to provide logs (mediaportal.log when this happens) & a link to a sample(so we can test) that doesn't work for you...

    @ ronilise

i will file a proper bug report but just FYI the troublesome movies play fine in any other player; mediaplayer included.
