    PowerDVD 8 Monochrome Skin (Blu-ray)

    Hi together,

I dont know if its still interesting for you, but recently I upgraded to PowerDVD 8.

Iam using the Monochrome-Skin, and for PowerDVD 7 I used the Monochrome Blu-ray Skin made by MoPhat :)thx: again!!).

For PowerDVD 8 I found no Skin for the Monochrome Theme, so I decided to create a new one and publish it here.
So here is it. I hope you can use it.

If you want to have a Monochrome Skin for HD-DVD just ask me.

    Have fun!

    Greetz,

    confused newbie

I have a nicely working MP1.0 setup with HD TV, moving pictures, tv series.
today I bought my first physical bluray disk and decide to try to get BD to work with MP. I wade through as much of this thread as I can, until my brain pops...

I have PDVD8, vista 32. My setup currently runs at 1080p/50, but I can use ati ccc to add a 1080p/24 profile no problem.

can someone help me with which of the many versions and configs discussed in this thread is the simplest one that actually does the job? If there is a FAQ or wiki for this, please feel free to point me to it and shout RTFM :D

What is your "Optical Drive" the drive you are putting the Blu-Ray Disc into to Play it? Brand and Model number? If this is not an actual Blu-ray disc drive, you will never be able to play a Blu-Ray disc with it.

If you have a Blu-Ray drive and you have PowerDVD, you should be able to play Blu-Ray disc's just fine from about any computer that was built for Vista and most others. If you have PowerDVD8 their are patches for that version that are needed to play Blu-Ray, so make sure you completely update PDVD and also search their site for any patches for your version/build of the product.

The plugin in this thread is just to make PowerDVD open and close from within MediaPortal and MediaPortal can not play Blu-Ray disc's alone, it needs PowerDVD or another external program to do so.

If your Optical Drive is capable of playing Blu-Ray it will have the Blu-Ray logo on the front bezel of the drive "it should" and if it is capable, you should also make sure that it has the latest firmware for that drive.

If you have all the above and everything is updated and you are just looking for a working version of the plugin, please tell me the path of your "PowerDVD" for example "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe"

    Hope this helps
    Steve.

sorry, maybe I didn't state enough of the system info . I have an LG GGC-H20-L blu-ray drive, pdvd 8, and I am just downloading the latest patch for pdvd. I will get myself to the state where PDVD8 can play the BD without mediportal being involved.

what you say at the end is exactly what I'm after, along with the basic "howto". power dvd .exe is at C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD8\PowerDVD8.exe - is the path hard coded into this plugin? Do I need to create an ATI 1080p/24 profile?

    many thanks

Here ya go, follow everything from the author and the first post on how to install/setup this plugin and use the HD_Starter.exe file from the zip file in this post (instead of the original), it is compiled for PowerDVD8 in the location/path you posted above.

if you were trying to use the original it most likely had the wrong path "CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe" and not "CyberLink\PowerDVD8\PowerDVD8.exe" as you have.

For anyone else reading this post, the below zip contains the HD_Starter.exe file for XP/Vista 32 bit only with PowerDVD8 located in C:program Files with the path "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD8\PowerDVD8.exe"
It uses the Fullscreen Function and the Browser_Back

Hm, I upgraded to pdvd9 and I want to use the Cinema mode, but I can't get it work with my iMon + Logitech Harmony. What do I have to do? I mapped the blue buttom to PowerDVDCinema and the display lights up, but in pdvd doesn't happen anything...

I do not think imon will work while MP is running in the background, imon has to work with either one program or the other, either MP or PDVD9. I think, I have an imon display on my setup, but it is disabled for desktop apps while MP is running, but it works for everything in MP and most of our viewing is done through MP and moving pictures.

I am not sure about your remote, I have not been rich enough to buy the one i want (400 us) so therefor I do not have a harmony yet.

    Hi steve,

thanks for those pointers. I downloaded your file, and those in the first post and followed the instructions in the first post to the letter. On executing the dllfix file, I got a "this program has stopped working" windows error. I tried running it as administrator, and it then appeared to work - it said "done" or something like that, and the complaint went away.

I then go into mediaportal plugins config and I cannot see the hd starter plugin mentioned in the first post anywhere in my plugin list. I am familiar with mp plugin config, I use tv series, moving pictures etc. hdstarter.ahk, hdstarter.exe, dllfix.exe are all in c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\plugins\windows
what did I miss? do I need to install something else?

Ian, sorry to just get back with ya, you only need to add the HD Starter.dll and HD_Starter.exe in the MediaPortal plugins\Windows directory and also the ddlfix file, then execute the dllfix file, the .ahk is just a source file and actual might cause problem if it is in the plugins folders, so remove that file. Make sure that you are substituting the file that I provided for the one in the original post. After this is done I don't see you should have a problem continue with the remaining steps from in the original post. If you still are having trouble you may message the author of this plugin as well, but i don't think you should have any problems as it worked perfect for me, just needed to recompile the file with the correct path, also I have used this with PDVD8 and 9, both worked great. Currently still using with 9.

On a side note If you have "User Account Control" turned on in Vista, you might consider disabling it, if not permanently at least when you install programs and run various files. This can be done from within the User Accounts area of the control panel under your user account, then you could disable the alert from withing security center if it was to be permanent. If you are using your computer as a daily desktop and frequent web browsing you may leave it enabled for the added security.
