Hi Fellow New Zealanders,

I'm currently downloading my EPG from "Reven Interactive" which for some reason only goes 5 days forward now. I'm also getting pissed off with it anyway because the name of the shows I'm repeat recording keep changing - ahhhhh!!!

Can anyone out there recommend the best source and process for setup please.

I can't help, but I'm in a similar situation. I get my Freeview EPG via a program which gets it from the FreeView NZ website, and it stopped updating 3 or 4 days ago and there is nothing appearing after Sunday night. Even the Online Programme Guide on their website doesn't work after Sunday. I emailed them yesterday but no response and no action.

Thanks for your response guys. Rieves, sounds like there is a problem with the EPG as I have the same issue - nothing after this Sunday, so hopefully it sorts itself. I also notice that on Media Portal here Country_Specific_Informations/NewZealand - MediaPortal Manual Documentation that Reven Interactive is recommended - I must admit, it has worked fine up until now.

Do you guys have the same issue where scheduled recording names change and as result recordings get missed? Is there any way around that?

As far as I remember reven is a webpage scraper that automatically changes sources if it has issues. What is probably happening is it is gathering info from different pages that have the names listed differently so it would be more a problem with the source material than reven, thats a guess though. Have you been to the reven website to see if there has been any issues reported there or solutions given?

Have you got an example of how the names change? If it's something like "XYZ" programme name + some other info that changes then ForTheRecord fixes this - just set it to record "XYZ" and it doesn't matter if the rest of the programme name changes, it'll be recorded - i.e. you can tell it to record "food" and it will record anything with the word "food" in the title. You can also 4TR to record 'XYZ" at any time so that you catch new episodes/repeats etc - I do this for "Top Gear" - whenever Top Gear plays it gets recorded - just set it once and forget it. This is great for recording series as well because I use Comskip so I never get to see ads (a bit of a shame that ) but it can mean that I miss out on a new series of something we watch being advertised - doesn't matter though - ForTheRecord "knows" to record it ForTheRecord takes MP TV recording to a whole new level - the standard TV plugin? Forget it.

xmlTVNZ take down order from sky
it outlines the problem all screen grabber approaches have in NZ. Reven basically sent his code off shore, made it open source, its hosted off shore and therefore avoids any risk of being prosecuted in NZ by Sky etc.

The EPG grabber link kina evolved out of this and is a far better approach and allows DVB-S and DVB-T to get free EPG via MHEG5

Hi Guys,

As thekiwi mentions Sky NZ has been issuing take down notices (again) to sites which host EPG's (eg. Reven). For that reason Steve & I have created EPG Collector | Download EPG Collector software for free at SourceForge.net

This takes its data from the transmission stream itself and doesn't rely on websites. It's been working in NZ now for about 6 months and is well supported & free

Hi Bleazie,

Wow, that ForTheRecord looks awesome!! I haven't got into the documentation as yet (will print it out at work tomorrow), but is it straight forward to implement this? Is there anything to watch out for? It appears from the screenshots to be all incorporated into MediaPortal as well - can all the recording be set from within Mediaportal?
