To summarise my experiences with the HVR4000 analog on a clean reinstall:
It is possible to recieve analog signal if you also install the PowerCinema software that comes with the hardware.
However, in my experience, this is incredibly buggy, and I am choosing not to continue - it's easier to buy another card! The problems I faced were:
- It seemed to slow MP down incredibly, namely when trying to do anything regarding TV
- Secondly, recording was technically possible, but I experienced several issues:
1) PowerCinema would open as well from time to time
2) It was hard to stop/start mediaportal from recording - that is it wasn't as simple as pressing the record button - it seemed to want to keep recording!
These are probably possible to fix, but I have noo idea how to go about it. I have attached a "log" of what I did on a clean Windows XP Pro SP2 install to get it working.

Good feedback Michael - thanks. Did you uninstall PowerCinema and if so, did that improve performance and operation of Media Portal?

Ive read with interest that DVB-T is transmitting from Kaukau, time to get that DVB-T card! From what Ive read the Hauppauge 4000 seems to give problems so I'm leaning towards the 1300. As a noobe to DVB, does T operate the same way as S, in that they mux mulitple channels onto a single carrier, so that with TVE3 you can watch / record multiple channels with 1 card? I understand with S Freeview have all their channels across 2 transponders, any idea what the arrangements are for T?

I think that is how it works Mark. I noticed that when MP tuned the Kaukau frequencies I had multiple channels on the same frequency. In fact I found 10 TV and 2 Radio channels on three frequencies. So its does seem to be configured like a satellite mux. Of course, DVB-T is to be transmitted using MPEG4 rather than MPEG2, whether that has any impact on TVE3's ability to record multiple channels on the same mux - not sure, but I sure hope not.
PS I have been using the HVR4000 for some time now and I have had no trouble with it provided you forget about the analog side. However it does have two tuners so you can record DVB-S and DVB-T at the same time. That makes it worthwhile.

Mike, I couldn't tell you whether it was the removal of PowerCinema or simply the removal of the analog channels from TVServer, but what ever the case is, MP is now much quicker and more stable than the setup which included analog that I had been trialling.
Interesting - I didn't know that the HVR4000 was capable of recording both DVBT and S simultaneously - fantastic!

I note of warning - I have not tried to record both from DVB-T and DVB-S yet, in fact I plan to try that over the weekend - well recording a DVB-S transmission whilst watching DVB-T live. Its more complicated to setup because I need to disable one of the DVB-S cards first so that I am sure that the HVR4000 is being used to record DVB-S rather than the second DVB-S card I have. However everything I have read and other forum posters confirm that the HVR4000 does indeed have two seperate tuners. I will report my findings though.

I am interested to know what others are using for their DVB-S mux. I am currently using TS format to store recordings because I just cannot get the MPG format to work. I want to try some different MPG muxes to try and get a better quality recording. The TS format is not that good really for me with the occasional stutter and picture break up.
So what format are you using to store recordings and what mux is being used?

OK, I'm a loser. I'm just getting started with MediaPortal and can't get what I imagine is a simple setup working: MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 with a SkyStar2 card.
The basic problem is that I don't know where to start. The wiki page on NZ is pretty limited, and I've trawled through this thread but it's pretty lengthy.
In MediaPortal setup, Television -> Capture Cards shows my SkyStar2 card, Television & Recording both True.
I tried Edit -> Autotune, and it did appear to be locking onto several channels.
But in Television -> TV Channels, there are no channels. Should there be?
In my aimless wandering I have tried downloading Satellites.xml and optusd1.ini files from Rhys Goodwin, but no effect.

If these are not correct you will not get anything. In my case (albeit with a Nova S Plus), I needed to put 10750 in all of the fields (i.e. LOF1, 2 and Switch). The frequency you need will depend on the LNB you have but will be either 10750 or 11300 in most cases. So if the Switch option of "0" does not work try putting the same value in Switch as you have in LOF 1 (some have even suggested put a higher value in Switch than you have in LOF 1). Switch really is only used if you have one of the newer dual LNB's - but it caused me trouble till I got it right.
